Hoosiers Double Up With Victories Over Penn State, Butler

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team did not drop a team point on the day as they picked up a 4-0 win against No. 33 Penn State and a 7-0 win against Butler on Sunday at the IU Tennis Center.
Against Penn State, the Hoosiers (7-14) won No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to take the doubles point and build a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Hoosiers won five out of six first sets to continue the positive momentum. Senior Sam Monette, ranked No. 60, came back from down 3-1 in his first set to win the set and the match, 6-3, 6-2 over No. 110 Leonardo Stakhovsky.
Freshman Afonso Salgado won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6 singles to give the Hoosiers a 3-0 lead and junior Matthew McCoy clinched the match for IU with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
The Hoosiers came out focused against Butler in their second match of the day and won the doubles points in just under 30 minutes with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
The Hoosiers continued their dominance in singles, where they did not drop a set to Butler in any singles match. Seniors Elliott Yee and Chris Essick made appearances for IU in the lineup and each picked up straight sets wins, 7-6, 6-3 for Yee and 6-1, 6-1 for Essick.
For the second straight weekend sophomore Raheel Manji played a match at the No. 1 singles position and won again, with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Mason Dragos from Butler.
Junior Matthew McCoy won his second singles match of the day with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 3 singles position.
Next up the Hoosiers hit the road for the final time of the regular season as they play at Nebraska on Friday April 15 and at Iowa on Sunday April 17.
