IU Hosts Pair of B1G Matches Starting Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team is coming off a stretch of playing five of its last six matches in Big Ten play on the road. The Hoosiers will now end the regular season with four consecutive matches at home in Bloomington beginning with two this weekend.
IU (13-8, 3-4) will welcome Wisconsin to town on Friday, April 15 for a 3 p.m. ET start time and will then take on Minnesota on Sunday, April 17 at 11 a.m.
Wisconsin (5-12, 2-5) arrives in Bloomington coming off a 4-3 win over Michigan State last weekend in Madison. The Badger singles lineup features two players ranked in this week's ITA National Singles Rankings in No. 54 Lauren Chypyha and No. 90 Ekaterina Stepanova.
Minnesota (12-8, 4-3) sits one game in front of Indiana in the Big Ten standings and has won two of it last three matches. The Gophers will battle Purdue on Friday prior to taking on the Hoosiers on Sunday.
Indiana's Paula Gutierrez, who recently moved to the No. 1 singles position, finds herself ranked in the latest ITA National Singles Rankings for the second week in a row coming in at No. 96 this week. These last two weeks have been the first time Gutierrez had been ranked in singles in her collegiate career.
Senior Sarah McLean continues to play well at the No. 3 position as the Miami, Fla., native owns a 16-4 singles record during the 2016 dual season.
Another bright spot over last several weeks for the Hoosiers has been sophomore Stephanie Smith. Smith won both of her No. 4 singles matches last weekend at then-No. 50 Illinois and at then-No. 38 Northwestern. She's won three of her last four singles matches in Big Ten play and has gone 5-2 since mid March.
