Hoosiers Drops Back-and-Forth Battle With Badgers, 5-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team (13-9, 3-5) could nott fend off the Wisconsin Badgers (6-12, 3-5) on a beautiful Friday afternoon at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts, losing 5-2.
Doubles did not get the Hoosiers off to the right start as the Badgers notched wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, 6-1 and 6-2. While being able to finish their match at No. 3 doubles with the doubles point already in Wisconsin's favor, IU's Kim Schmider and Stephanie Smith won 6-4.
The Hoosiers attempt at a comeback began early on in singles as Sarah McLean continued her hot season with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3. Shortly after, it was the Badgers who responded with a 6-1, 6-0 win of their own at No. 6, pushing their match lead to 2-1.
The back and forth battle continued as Stephanie Smith at No. 4 won 6-2, 7-5, evening the score at 2-2. Down to three matches left, Wisconsin once again took a lead with a win at No. 5 singles and didn't look back. The Badgers notched close wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to finish off the Hoosiers.
The Hoosiers are back on Sunday in Bloomington as they face the Minnesota Golden Gophers (12-8, 4-3). That match will begin at 11 a.m. ET.
