First Round 286 Leaves IU In Fifth Place at Big Ten Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Indiana women's golf team got rounds under par from Camille Chevalier (-3) and Ana Sanjaun (-2) in Friday first round of the Big Ten Women's Golf Championship at The Fort Golf Resort to finish at 2-under par and fifth place as a team.

Chevalier made it six of her last eight rounds that have been under par as she opened with a birdie on her first hole – No. 10 – and then moved to 2-under on the round after a birdie on No. 12. From there, she rattled off 14 straight pars before closing her round with a birdie on hole No. 9. Her score of 3-under par 69 puts her in a tie for third place individually.
Over her last 36 holes, Chevalier has eight birdies, 26 pars and one bogey. The opening round 69 for Chevalier is her best single round score in seven career rounds at the Big Ten Championship, topping her previous best of 74.
Sanjuan, like Chevalier, got off to a strong start with a birdie on her fourth hole after opening with three straight pars. A birdie on her seventh hole got her to 2-under on the round as she made the turn. On her back nine – the front nine on the course – she carded two birdies and two bogeys to finish with a score of 70 and a tie for 10th.
Alix Kong made it three players inside the Top 25 after she posted an even par round of 72 with four birdies and four bogeys to sit in a tie for 23rd. She was 2-over par with four holes remaining but she closed the round birdie-birdie-bogey-birdie to get back to even par.
Pear Siriko had a steady round on Friday, posting the fourth score that counted towards the team score with a 3-over par 75 with four bogeys, one birdie and 13 pars to tie for 45th.
Erin Harper, a freshman playing in her first Big Ten Championship, was 4-over on her first seven holes before closing the round with 11 straight pars on her way to a 76 and a tie for 55th.
Theresa-Ann Jedra rounded out the IU lineup with a 78 in her first round and is tied for 68th.
