
Indiana hits Road for Illinois, Northwestern

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team will hit the road this weekend to take on Illinois and Northwestern. The Hoosiers battle the Fighting Illini on Friday, April 8 at 5 p.m. ET in Champaign before moving on to Evanston to battle the Wildcats on Sunday, April 10 at 12 p.m.
These two matches will be the final two road Big Ten matches for Indiana (13-6, 3-2) on the year before the Hoosiers play their final four of the season in Bloomington. IU sits at No. 68 in this week's national team rankings after falling to Purdue last weekend.
For the first time in 2016, an IU player is ranked nationally in singles play as Paula Gutierrez has climbed to No. 90 overall in the country. The junior has played well during conference matches and was recently named Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on March 29.
Illinois (10-6, 4-1) has been hot as of late, winning five matches in a row and six of its last seven, including four of those on the road. The Fighting Illini are ranked No. 50 in this week's ITA National Team Rankings as their doubles duo of Ines Vias and Louise Kwong sit at No. 43 in the country in doubles.
Northwestern (7-8, 5-0) has yet to lose in Big Ten play in 2016. The No. 38 Wildcats have a pair of players ranked in the national singles rankings in No. 54 Maddie Lipp and No. 91 Erin Larner. In doubles, Lipp teams with Alex Chatt to rank 25th in the country as Larner and Alicia Barnett are the No. 47 doubles pair in the nation.
