
Hoosiers Come Up Short at No. 50 Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Indiana women's tennis team fell on the road to No. 50 Illinois on Friday evening, 5-2. The Fighting Illini extended their winning streak to six straight matches.
Illinois (11-6, 5-1) struck first winning the No. 1 doubles match before the Indiana (13-7, 3-3) duo of Danielle Wolf and Madison Appel won at No. 3 doubles to even things.
The No. 2 doubles match pitted Indiana's Paula Gutierrez and Sarah McLean against Illinois' Madie Baillon and Jerricka Boone to decide the point. The IU duo trailed 6-5 and took the next game to force a tiebreak. Illinois then cruised through the tiebreaker, taking it 7-1 to earn the doubles point for the Illini.
Illinois rode that doubles point momentum into singles winning the first three completed matches at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 2 to clinch the team win.
IU picked up its points at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions as Sarah McLean and Stephanie Smith picked up victories in those spots, respectively.
Indiana will next head to Evanston to battle No. 38 Northwestern on Sunday. That match is set to begin at Noon ET.
