1V4 Leads Hoosiers at NCAA Championship

GOLD RIVER, California – After the first day of the 2016 NCAA Rowing Championship at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center near Sacramento, the Indiana rowing team has one crew in the A/B semifinals and two in the C/D semifinals on Saturday.
In the morning session of heats, the Hoosiers began with a third place finish by the 2V8, a fourth place finish by the 1V4 and a fifth place finish by the 1V8 in their respective heats.
Then in the afternoon Repechage heats, Indiana was led by the 1V4, who won their heat and advanced to the A/B semifinals. The 2V8 finishing third and 1V8 finishing fifth to move on to the C/D semifinals.
For the 1V4, they finished fourth in their heat with a time of 7:39.020, behind California, Stanford and Wisconsin while they beat Gonzaga. Then in the repechage heat later in the day, Indiana was able to get off to a strong start and was in second place for the first half of the race, trailing Princeton. But Indiana was able to find its rhythm midway down the course and was able to race through Princeton and win with a time of 7:30.225, just over 1.3 seconds ahead of Princeton.
The 2V8 posted the best finish of the morning session for IU, who earned third place at the Big Ten Championships earlier this month, logging third place finish with a time of 6:43.718 to earn the top seed in their repechage heat. In the repechage race, the Hoosiers used a burst through the middle of the race but were not able to catch Yale and Michigan and crossed the line in third place with a time of 6:50.533.
The 1V8 was unable to find the right combination in the morning heat and finished in fifth place with a time of 6:31.060. Then in their repechage heat, their time of 6:38.694 was good for fifth to get them into the C/D semifinals.
On Saturday, the 1V8 will compete in the first C/D semifinal at 8:12 a.m. PT/11:12 a.m. ET in lane three. The 2V8 is the top seed in the second heat of the C/D semifinals, which takes place at 9:12 a.m. PT/12:12 p.m. ET in lane one. And then, in the final race of the day, the 2V4 will race out of lane five at 10:24 a.m. PT/1:24 p.m. ET.
