BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After starting the season 3-0 the Indiana volleyball team travels to the west coast for four matches at the University of San Francisco.
The Schedule
Sept. 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET: Indiana vs. Campbell
Sept. 2 at 9:30 p.m. ET: Indiana vs. San Francisco
Sept. 3 at 1:00 p.m. ET: Indiana vs. Columbia
Sept. 3 at 8:00 p.m. ET: Indiana vs. Princeton
The 2016 Hoosiers
IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan enters her 10th season at the helm for the Indiana volleyball program with high hopes for this season. Although the team graduated five seniors they bring in six newcomers, including a freshmen class of five, which was ranked No. 29 in the country by PrepVolleyball.Com.
Going Back to Where it Started
IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan got her coaching start as an assistant at San Francisco from 1993-96. While she coached at USF she also earned a master's degree in sports and fitness management.
Looking Ahead
Next weekend the Hoosiers are in Ft. Myers, Fla., for the FGCU Invitational, before returning home Sept. 16-17 to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with the Hoosier Classic.
Reaching a Milestone
On Saturday Aug. 27 against Marshall, senior Taylor Lebo became the 17th player in the history of the program to reach 100 aces. Lebo now has 103 and ranks 14th on the all-time list for career aces.
Approaching a Milestone
Senior Megan Tallman is 32 assists shy of 3,000 for her career. When she gets there, Tallman will become just the seventh player in the history of the program to reach 3,000 career assists and the first since 2003.
Thoughts from Head Coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan
On the opening weekend
"Anytime you go 3-0 we are very happy about that. We know we have some things to improve on but it was nice to see Kendall Beerman, who was redshirted last year come in and play six rotations for us over the weekend. Jessica Leish, who didn't get a lot of playing time last year, she came in all three matches and changed the momentum for us. We are looking for everyone to do their job and help us to find wins."
On going back to San Francisco
"It's so fun to think about. I was probably about 22 or 23 years old at the time. I was working five jobs and getting my master's at that time. I had no idea I wanted to get into collegiate coaching. I fell in love with the city and then also being around athletics and kids that want to be great and having a big impact in so many different ways. I am very thankful for all the people there and I am still friend with a lot of them and looking forward to seeing many of them this weekend."
