IUWS Hosts Hoosier Challenge Cup This Weekend

Admission to all games is free of charge, however admission will be charged beginning at halftime on Friday due to the men's game that follows.
GEAUXING AGAINST THE TIGERS
The Hoosiers host LSU on Friday afternoon, a team that has started the year 1-3. The Tigers picked up 1-0 win against College of Charleston and dropped contests against #17 Virginia Tech, George Washington and Colgate. Jorian Baucom, Delaney Sheehan and Jordane Carvery have all netted goals for LSU. Caroline Brockmeier has played every minute in goal for the Tigers with a 1.50 goals against average.
These two teams met last season in Baton Rouge. The Tigers came away with a 4-0 victory.
SCOUTING SMU
SMU is 2-0 on the year, with an 8-0 win against Northwestern State and a 9-0 victory against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi over the weekend. Allie Thornton is leading the way with four goals, while Hannah Fleet and Haley Thompson have each netted three goals apiece. Catie Brown has seen the most minutes in goal. SMU is outshooting opponents, 71-13, including 43-0 in shots on goal.
Monday's meeting is just the second in history between the teams. SMU came away with a 1-0 victory in 1995.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers went 2-0 last weekend, picking up wins against Butler and Northern Colorado. Caroline Dreher scored her first career goal on the gamewinner against the Bulldogs, while Mykayla Brown, Cassidy Blacha and Maya Piper all found the back of the net against Northern Colorado. Dreher earned her third point of the weekend on an assist to Blacha while freshman Meghan Scott picked up her first career point on the assist to Piper. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah L'Hommedieu earned shutout victories in both games.
L'HOMMEDIEU'S B1G WEEK
For her efforts over the weekend - which included 14 saves on the way to the two shutouts - L'Hommedieu was named the Big Ten Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week. Additionally, L'Hommedieu was one of four nominated for NCAA Fan Favorite Player of the Week on the NCAA Soccer Twitter page.
WEEKEND PROMOS
The first 300 fans at Friday's game will receive the official Crimson Guard scarf. In addition, both the women's and men's teams are hosting "For the Kicks Night" on Friday to raise awareness for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. There will be a tailgate for IU Dance Marathon at 6 p.m., following the women's game and before the men's match against California.
Monday's game against SMU is Military Appreciation Day as IU Women's Soccer recognizes and thanks service members. All active and retired military will receive a free drink at the concession stand with an ID.
WHAT'S AHEAD IN 2016?
The 2016 schedule features 11 total games against participants in the 2015 NCAA Tournament and nine opponents who finished last season ranked in the top 50 of the RPI.
The non-conference portion of the slate includes eight games, with six opponents advancing to the tournament last year and four winning their conference championship.
Big Ten play will see Indiana face off against five NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, including National Champion Penn State and Women's College Cup semifinalist Rutgers.
In the latest NSCAA Poll, five of Indiana's 2016 opponents are ranked - No. 9 Minnesota, No. 12 Rutgers, No. 13 Penn State, No. 16 Virginia Tech and No. 24 Northwestern.
