Hoosiers Fall at No. 10 Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Allison Hammond led the Hoosiers with nine kills, but the Indiana volleyball team dropped a three set match at No. 10 Purdue (15-25, 17-25, 18-25) on Saturday at Mackey Arena.
Indiana (12-3, 1-1) fell behind 8-3 in the opening set as the Boilermakers (11-2, 1-1) hit .450 to control the first set.
The Hoosiers had eight attack errors in each of the first two sets and although they improved from .097 to .143 attack percentage, the Boilermakers remained efficient with a .412 hitting percentage and took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 victory in the second set.
In the third set the Hoosiers gained momentum as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Indiana hit .480 in the third set with 15 kills and three errors, but Purdue could not be slowed down as they hit .652 with 16 kills and one error.
Sophomore Elizabeth Asdell converted on five kills and Hammond tallied three kills on four swings in the third set.
Senior Megan Tallman led the Hoosiers with 34 assists, but Indiana had trouble overcoming the Boilermakers .517 attack percentage for the match. Purdue had six attack errors for the match, while Indiana had 19 attack errors and 14 service errors.
Up next the Hoosiers host a pair of top-three opponents as they welcome No. 2 Minnesota on Friday Sept. 30 and No. 3 Wisconsin on Saturday October 1. Both matches will be played at University Gym.
