BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Big Ten currently has nine teams in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 poll and the Hoosiers will host two teams in the top-three of that poll this weekend with No. 2 Minnesota on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and No. 3 Wisconsin on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at University Gym in Bloomington.
The 2016 Hoosiers
IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan enters her 10th season at the helm for the Indiana volleyball program with high hopes for this season. Although the team graduated five seniors they bring in six newcomers, including a freshmen class of five, which was ranked No. 29 in the country by PrepVolleyball.Com.
Looking Ahead
The Hoosiers next three matches are against the top-three teams in the AVCA Top-25 poll. After No. 2 Minnesota and No. 3 Wisconsin, the Hoosiers travel to Lincoln, Neb., where they will take on No. 1 Nebraska on Friday Oct. 7.
Records and Milestones
On Friday Sept. 16 senior Megan Tallman was presented with a special game ball for reaching her 3,000th career assist. Tallman currently ranks fifth on the Hoosiers all-time list for career assists with 3,444. Senior Taylor Lebo moved into seventh on the Hoosiers all-time list for career aces and now has 117. Lebo also passed 900 career digs and has tallied 957 for her career. Earlier this season against Campbell, IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan earned her 250th career win.
Thoughts from Head Coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan
On getting ready for Minnesota and Wisconsin
"Win or lose, no matter who is on the other side of the court, can we be us and be ok with that and have that competitive identity. I think that is what you are expected to do, put your best out on the court and believe in that and then if someone is better then you then good for them. We need to put us out on the court at the highest level this weekend for two matches and see what it gives us. Then if it is not enough to win we can improve on that."
Hoosiers in Big Ten and NCAA Ranks
The Hoosiers .294 hitting percentage ranks third in the Big Ten and eighth in the NCAA. Freshman Hayden Huybers ranks third in the Big Ten in hitting at .455 and senior Jazzmine McDonald ranks fifth at .394. In aces the Hoosiers rank first in the Big Ten in total aces with 106 and second in aces per set at 2.00/set. Indiana ranks fifth in the NCAA in total aces and sixth in aces per set.
