Hoosiers Seek Second Big Ten Win Against Iowa

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Hoosiers face a pair of avian encounters this weekend, splitting their slate between the comforts of Bloomington and their third Mid-American Conference road environment of the season. Paced by national scoring leader Kate Barber (1.5 goals/game), Indiana (6-4, 1-1) earned their first conference win last weekend at home versus Rutgers. They'll look for their crucial second Big Ten victory against an Iowa team seeking their first conference win of the year.
"It's a huge weekend for us," said head coach Amanda Janney. "Iowa is traditionally a great team, they're really well-coached, and very well structured in their system and their penalty corners. Knowing that, we have to bring our best game and make sure we're getting a lot of shots off. I think it's really important for us to score first in this game. They're 0-3 in conference, and that's a tough position to be in, so we know they're going to come in hungry and play their best. We need to make sure we're protecting our home field, we were able to get them last year at home and we expect the same this year."
The Hoosiers open the weekend with their third Big Ten game of the season, hosting the No. 18 Iowa Hawkeyes (6-4, 0-3), before traveling to Oxford for a showdown with the Miami Redhawks (5-5, 1-0). Friday's home game will stream live on BTN2Go.com.

Hawkeye Watch
The Hoosiers and Hawkeyes meet for the 20th time this weekend in a clash of two of the Big Ten's fastest offenses. In their encounter last season, Indiana snapped a five-game losing streak to Iowa en route to their first of five Big Ten wins. Kate Barber and Taylor Pearson netted the first two decisive goals, with Abby Urbanek assisting on Pearson's game-winner.
The Hawkeyes are 6-4, and opened the season with a 2-1 upset win over No. 7 Wake Forest, but they seek their first Big Ten win after falling short in their first three attempts.
Ready for Redhawks
For the third and final time this season, Indiana hits the road for a Sunday game against the Mid-American Conference. The Hoosiers lead the all-time series, 11-5, and have won five of the last six meetings. The Hoosiers have awaited their opportunity for rebuttal, as the Redhawks took the most recent game at Indiana, 3-1, last season.
The Redhawks are 5-5 on the year, most recently posting a 2-0 win over Michigan State on the road. They'll travel to Missouri State on Friday before hosting the Hoosiers.
