Hoosiers Improve to 5-0 With Weekend Sweep

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's tennis team improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2003, with wins over the Eastern Illinois Panthers and the Illinois-Chicago Flames.
In doubles against the Panthers, freshmen Zac Brodney and Payam Ahmadi started IU off with a 6-2 win at the three spot. At one, junior Raheel Manji and sophomore Afonso Salgado clinched the Hoosiers fifth doubles point of the season. With a win at hand, senior Stefan Lugonjic and sophomore Antonio Cembellin won at two doubles.
In singles, the Hoosiers won in straight sets at every spot. At five singles, Salgado won 6-2, 6-0. With a senior Matthew McCoy and sophomore Oliver Sec win, the Hoosiers secured their match victory. The morning finished up with wins by Brodney, Ahmadi and Cembellin.
The afternoon match featured the Hoosiers and the UIC Flames and begun with the Hoosiers once again taking a doubles point. The duo of Lugonjic/Cembellin improved to 4-0 on the season with a 6-1 win at two doubles. At the three spot, Crane and Brodney grabbed the doubles point for the Hoosiers with a 6-2 win.
In singles, Crane rolled through his match at five singles to put the Hoosiers up 2-0. At six singles, Brodney won 6-3, 6-1 followed by a Manji 6-1, 6-1 win to give the Hoosiers the win.
Next up for the Hoosiers are the Princeton Tigers, who come to Bloomington next Saturday, Feb. 4 for a dual match.
