Hoosiers Drop Road Contest to Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – Indiana men's basketball (14-8, 4-5 Big Ten) dropped Sunday night's game to Northwestern (18-4, 7-2 Big Ten) at Welsh-Ryan Arena, 68-55.
The Hoosiers were led in scoring by sophomore Thomas Bryant, who tied his career high with 23 points and picked up his seventh career double-double, adding 12 rebounds.
Junior Robert Johnson chipped in 12 points, while redshirt junior Josh Newkirk added seven assists, along with five points.
Indiana opened the game a 10-1 run, led by five points from Bryant. However, Northwestern responded with a 20-2 run to grab a 21-12 advantage with 7:49 remaining in the half. In that span, the Hoosiers were hurt by a field goal drought of nearly eight minutes.
The Wildcats kept Indiana at arm's length, not allowing the Hoosiers to get closer than six points in the half, and took a 35-23 lead into the break.
A Bryant layup cut the Northwestern lead to 10 points with 17:46 remaining in the game, but the Wildcats continually answered, taking a 49-32 advantage six minutes later.
Northwestern jumped to its largest lead of the night, 56-38, on a 3-pointer from Bryant McIntosh, who led Northwestern with 21 points. Sanjay Lumpkin added 15 points while Vic Law pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with nine points.
Newkirk trimmed the deficit to 12 points after a 3-point play on a layup and free throw with two minutes remaining, however the Hoosiers would get no closer.
Up next, the Hoosiers return home to host Penn State at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Wednesday night. The game will tip at 6:30 p.m. and will air on the Big Ten Network.
