KOPEL EARNS BIG TEN FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
• Bethany Kopel earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors Tuesday after pulling in 17 saves last week. The Novi, Mich. native had 12 saves in the win against Iowa, the most of any Big Ten keeper this season and the most for a Hoosier in a single game since Sarah Stone has 12 versus Penn State in 2015. Kopel is currently third in the Big Ten with 82 saves on the year, which is 43rd nationally and seventh amongst fellow freshman keepers.
• After last week's action, Kopel led the nation in goalkeeper minutes played with 1610:00.
• The honor was the first of Kopel's young career.
HOOSIER NOTABLES
• Junior Maya Piper is pacing the Hoosier offense with 16 points (7 goals, 2 assists). Piper netted a goal in Indiana's 2-1 victory against Iowa last week.
• Sophomore Chandra Davidson is close behind with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists).
• Redshirt junior Mykayla Brown scored the equalizer for the Hoosiers in the 72nd minute against Nebraska. It was Brown's third goal of the year and was assisted by sophomore Sydney Kilgore for her first career assist.
• 12 different Hoosiers have recorded an assist this season, the best distribution since 14 had at least one assist in 2013. Brown has registered four assists this year, a career-best for the redshirt junior. Indiana's 21 assists is the most since IU had 46 in 2013.
• Indiana has drawn 98 corner kicks this season, which is second most in the conference. In addition, IU averages 5.76 corner kicks per game, which is ranked 47th nationally.
• The Hoosiers rank third in the Big Ten with total shots on the season at 237.
• Saturday's game marks the third contest against a ranked opponent this season. The Hoosiers are 1-0-1 in those games, falling to No. 13 Clemson on Aug. 20, 1-0, and defeating No. 23 Southern Methodist on Sept. 8, 1-0.
SCOUTING RUTGERS
• The Scarlet Knights, who have spent much of the season ranked in the top 25, are currently fifth in the Big Ten standings.
• Last week, Rutgers drew with No. 13 Penn State and defeated No. 12 Ohio State, 1-0.
• Tied for first in the country in shutouts, Rutgers goalkeeper Casey Murphy has 12.0 on the year and has played every minute between the pipes. Murphy has allowed just five goals all season and her .911 save percentage is fifth in the country.
• The Scarlet Knights have seen offensive production out of numerous players this year as 11 have found the back of the net, led by Colby Ciarrocca (6 goals, 3 assists) and Amirah Ali (5 goals, 4 assists).
• Last season, Indiana and Rutgers battled to a 2-2 draw in Bloomington. The Scarlet Knights took a 2-0 lead in the 14th minute, but a 32nd minute penalty kick by Marissa Borschke and a 41st minute equalizer from Kilgore led to the draw.
