Hoosiers Come Up Short at Maryland, 3-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Elizabeth Asdell led the Indiana volleyball team with 15 kills and hit .464 as the Hoosiers fell on the road at Maryland, 3-1 (19-25, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25).
Asdell led three Hoosiers who reached double-digit kills with Deyshia Lofton adding 12 and Kendall Beerman coming up with 10. Beerman added 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Sophomore setter Victoria Brisack recorded 48 assists and nine digs and freshman libero Nora Meehan tallied 12 digs.
In the first set the Hoosiers (12-11, 1-10) got out to a 5-1 lead on a kill from Brisack. Maryland countered, as they went up 17-10. Back-to-back blocks from Lofton got IU back to within five at 19-14, but Maryland closed the set out with a 25-19 win.
In the second set the Hoosiers and Terrapins were tied 11-11 when Maryland used an 8-2 run to go up 19-13. Indiana got back to within three at 23-20 on a block by Lofton and Ally Badowski, but Maryland would go on to win the set, 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Hoosiers showed resiliency in the third set as they hit .324 with 16 kills. Indiana led 6-2 on an ace by Samantha Fogg and back-to-back kills by Meaghan Koors put Indiana up 8-2. Later in the set, Badowski put down back-to-back kills to put Indiana up 14-7. The Hoosiers went on to win set three, 25-19.
In the fourth set Indiana had their best hitting set as they hit .407 with 14 kills. Maryland used an efficient attack of their own as they hit .343 with 17 kills and won the fourth set, 25-20 to win the match.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Columbus, Ohio as they take on Ohio State tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. ET.
