Minnesota Outlasts Indiana, 3-2

The first 15 minutes was an offensive outburst as three total goals were scored within a span of three minutes.
Miller netted her first career score in the 12th minute to give the Hoosiers 1-0 lead. Junior Maya Piper found senior Kayla Smith charging down the right flank, Smith collected the ball and sent it to Miller a few yards outside the 18-yard box. Miller then fired it from 20 yards out on the right side, sailing the ball diagonally over the head of Minnesota keeper Kailee Sharp.
However, the Golden Gophers quickly answered as Sydney Squires netted a pair of goals within two minutes of each other to give Minnesota a 2-1 advantage. Her first came just 47 seconds after Miller's score as Julianna Gernes and Maddie Gaffney teamed up to find her.
"With those three goals scored within three minutes, we just lost our heads there for a minute and we got disorganized," said head coach Amy Berbary. "Against a good team like that, they're going to punish you for it."
The Golden Gophers extended their lead to 3-1 as Gernes found the back of the net in the 52nd minute.
This time, the Hoosiers were the ones to respond quickly and cut the Minnesota lead to 3-2 just 50 seconds later. After junior Maya Piper's fantastic takeaway 27 yards out, she dribbled into the box and had her shot blocked for a corner. Senior Kylie Kirk's resulting service found the head of Davidson, who headed it down and in from six yards out. The goal was Davidson's sixth of the season, which is tied with Piper for the team lead.
"I thought we were pretty dangerous and we threatened them quite a bit. It was very back-and-forth, a high-scoring game. At the end of the day, we just have to execute better on both sides of the ball inside the 18-yard box."
The Hoosiers had some chances to equalize late, with the best look coming in the 85th minute as sophomore Sydney Kilgore crossed it in to redshirt junior Mykayla Brown. But her look went high.
"I think we need to realize that we have to come together," said Smith. "We can get a team win. It's coming, we just need to all be on board."
Indiana returns to action on Sunday as the Hoosiers travel to Wisconsin (9-3-1, 3-2-1 Big Ten) to face the Badgers. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on BTN Plus.
