Postgame Notes
• With the victory, head coach Tom Allen earned his first career Big Ten win.
• The 14 points scored by Illinois are the fewest allowed by Indiana in a Big Ten away win since Oct. 23, 1993, (0, at Northwestern). It's the fewest allowed by Indiana in any Big Ten victory since Oct, 17, 2009, (14, Illinois).
• Indiana's pair of interceptions and fumble recovery give the IU defense 10 takeaways this season with five interceptions and five fumble recoveries. That's the second time this year that the Hoosiers had three takeaways in a game (Sept. 23 vs. Georgia Southern).
• The defense limited to just 33 rushing yards, the second time this season the Hoosiers have held a Big Ten foe under 50. IU limited Penn State to 39 on Sept. 30. It is the fewest rushing yards allowed against a Big Ten foe since Purdue (31) on Nov. 13, 2013.
• Senior linebacker Tegray Scales made four tackles and had two takeaways for the first time in his career, increasing his total to three takeaways this season and nine over his career. Scales earned his first career fumble recovery and eight career interception in the fourth quarter.
• Fifth-year senior cornerback Rashard Fant secured his fifth career interception and first of the season. Including two fumble recoveries, Fant has seven total takeaways in his career.
• Fant made three pass breakups for the first time this season, his seventh career game with three-or-more PBUs. It is also Fant's 11th multi-PBU game.
• The Atlanta native set up Indiana's game-clinching touchdown drive. He downed the punt at the Illinois 1-yard line, made two PBUs on the ensuing Illini drive, and returned the three-and-out punt for 13 yards to the Illinois' 41.
• Indiana's defense earned a season-high eight sacks, the third-most in program history and the most since a school-record-tying nine at Iowa on Sept 29, 2007. The Hoosiers saw seven defenders earn a sack, the highest single-game total of the season.
• Junior defensive lineman Jacob Robinson posted career-highs with seven tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and his first career forced fumble. Robinson now has five career sacks and 11 career TFLs.
• Senior linebacker Chris Covington completed eight tackles with 1.5 sacks, his first career game with multiple sacks. The third quarter sack was Covington's third this season and the fifth of his career.
• Senior Robert McCray III tallied a sack, bringing his total to 5.5 sacks this season and eight in his career.
• Fifth-year senior Nate Hoff registered a solo sack, his second of this season and eighth of his career.
• McCray and Hoff share the lead for career sacks among active defensive linemen.
• Senior Greg Gooch assisted on a first quarter sack, his third of the season and fourth of his career.
• Sophomore Allen Stallings IV assisted on a sack to increase his career tally to three.
• With Stallings, Robinson, and Covington earning sacks in the game, there are now five Hoosiers with at least three sacks this season.
• Redshirt sophomore Gavin Everett made two tackles and assisted on his first career sack.
• Fifth-year senior safety Chase Dutra made nine tackles to lead the team, including two solo stops and an assisted tackle for loss, his first TFL of the season.
• Redshirt sophomore defensive back Andre Brown Jr. posted a career-high with eight tackles, including his third career tackle for loss.
• Fifth-year senior quarterback Richard Lagow threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns, his 10th career multi-TD game. Lagow has thrown the eighth-most passing scores in program history with 29.
• With his 289 passing yards, Lagow extended his career passing yardage to 4,689 yards, ranking him eighth all-time in career passing yardage.
• Lagow completed 32 passes, giving him 376 in his career – the eighth-most in program history.
• His 66.7 completion percentage is his highest this season, tied for his second-highest mark in an Indiana uniform.
• Senior Ian Thomas grabbed a touchdown reception late in the first half, the fourth score of his career. Thomas' four touchdowns this season are the most by an Indiana tight end since Ted Bolser (6 in 2013).
• Simmie Cobbs Jr. grabbed four receptions for 54 yards and the game-sealing touchdown. Cobbs is now tied with Tandon Doss for the eighth-most receptions in a single-season at 63.
• Cole Gest tallied a career high 109 all-purpose yards with a career-best 82 rushing yards and 27 receiving yards on a career-best three catches.
• True freshman Morgan Ellison took 13 carries for 49 yards and his fourth career touchdown, scoring Indiana's first points of the game.
• Fifth-year senior Griffin Oakes' extended his school record to 66 career fields made. Oakes is now seventh for the most career field goals made by a Big Ten kicker.
• Oakes connected on his eighth straight field goal, tying the sixth-longest streak in program history. This is the third time Oakes has been in the top-10 for most FGs in a row, joining Mitch Ewald as the only Hoosier to be on the list 3-plus times.
• With a field goal and three extra points, Oakes remains in second for the most points in program history with 337.
• Redshirt junior punter Haydon Whitehead dropped five punts inside the Illinois 20-yard line, a single-game career-high, while averaging 39.1 yards per attempt.
• Redshirt junior offensive lineman Wes Martin (10th-time this season), senior linebacker Tegray Scales (10th), fifth-year senior quarterback Richard Lagow (10th) and senior defensive end Greg Gooch (10th) served as today's game captains.
• Illinois won the opening coin toss and deferred. The Hoosiers are 5-for-10 in coin tosses this season.
