Hoosiers Come up Short Against RedHawks

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Three singles matches went three sets and the Indiana women's tennis team dropped a narrow match, 4-3 against Miami University on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers (3-2) got off to a solid start as they won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Indiana quickly went up 2-0 when freshman Pauline Jahren won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Miami University (1-2) got on the board with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles and evened the match 2-2 with a win at No. 4 singles.
Meanwhile, the remaining three matches were all in third sets. Sophomore Caitlin Bernard battled back from a 4-1 deficit to get it to 5-4 in her third set, but ultimately fell 6-4. Moments later the RedHawks won at No. 2 singles to clinch the match.
Senior Kim Schmider won her match 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to give the Hoosiers a third point in the match.
Up next the Hoosiers host a doubleheader tomorrow as they welcome Western Kentucky at 11:00 a.m. and Evansville at 3:30 p.m.
