Indiana Edged at No. 10/9 Wisconsin

MADISON, Wisconsin – The Indiana University men's basketball team fell on the road at No. 10/9-ranked Wisconsin, 65-60, at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisc. on Sunday afternoon.
With the setback, Indiana falls to 15-9 on the season overall and to 5-6 in Big Ten play. With the victory, Wisconsin extended its home-winning streak to 19 games and moved to 20-3 on the year overall and to 9-1 in league action.
Josh Newkirk led the Hoosiers with a game-high 22 points, including 17 in the second half, while Thomas Bryant had 11 points and six rebounds for the Hoosiers. Robert Johnson totaled 11 points, six assists and two rebounds.
The Badgers came out and were hot early, running out to a 22-10 lead over the Hoosiers with 8:34 remaining in the first half.
Indiana responded over the next five minutes, battling back to tie the game at 24-24 at the 2:33 mark thanks to a 14-2 run. At the half, Wisconsin took just a three-point advantage, 27-24, in to the locker room.
Bryant led the Hoosiers in the first 20 minutes, scoring nine points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor while grabbing four rebounds. Newkirk chipped in five points in the first half for IU, while Johnson totaled two points, two rebounds and four assists.
In a tightly-contested second half, the Hoosiers never trailed by more than nine points, but the Badgers were able to stay at arms-length from IU.
Indiana came as close as two midway through the final stanza and three with less than 30 second left, but the Badgers held on, edging the Hoosiers, 65-60.
The Indiana Hoosiers will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 9 when the team hosts No. 23/24-ranked Purdue at 7:00 p.m. ET at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
