Indiana Splits Doubleheader

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 match against Northwestern to open the day, but came back to top Detroit 4-1 in the late match on Sunday at the IU Tennis Center. The win over the Titans marked the Hoosiers 10th win of the season.
#20 Northwestern 4, #35 Indiana 2
In the day's first match against the Wildcats, the Hoosiers fought hard in doubles but couldn't come away with the point.
Freshman Zac Brodney took care of business at the six singles spot with a 6-2, 6-4 win. IU climbed ahead 2-1 with senior Matthew McCoy's straight sets win over Dominik Stary of Northwestern at the three spot.
The Wildcats stormed back with wins from the top two spots featuring ranked players and clinched the match with a win at No. 4 singles.
#35 Indiana 4, Detroit Mercy 1
IU turned its attention to the Titans for the second match of the day and got off to a great start in doubles.
Brodney and fellow freshman Bennett Crane kicked it off with a 6-2 win at the second spot. After the Titans tied it up, freshman Payam Ahmadi and sophomore Oliver Sec won a tiebreaker to claim the doubles point.
Junior Keivon Tabrizi held down the second singles spot, winning 6-1, 6-2. Ahmadi, in only his second singles match of the dual season, won handedly at the six spot, 6-2, 6-1.
With headband on, Brodney won his second match of the day, 6-3, 7-5 at the four spot to clinch IU's win. Brodney is now 9-1 on the dual season, winning two matches at the four spot, one at the five spot, and six matches at No. 6 singles.
Up next, Indiana will host two Big Ten foes, Michigan on Friday, March 31, and Michigan State on Sunday, April 2.
