BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Craig Dedelow's seventh inning grand slam propelled Indiana Baseball (24-17-2, 10-7-1) to knock off the 15th-ranked Maryland Terrapins, 6-3, in an abbreviated, eight inning contest due to travel restrictions on Sunday afternoon. Indiana took the series, 2-1.
Sophomore Pauly Milto went the first four innings and mixed seven hits with three runs. Junior B.J. Sabol (3-2) picked up the win following one inning of relief work. Junior Matt Lloyd grabbed his fifth save.
Dedelow knocked in home runs number 10 and 11 in the contest, highlighted by his second career grand slam. He finished with five RBI. Lloyd, junior Logan Sowers and senior Tony Butler also produced two hits, while freshman Jeremy Houston stroked the first home run of his career.
Maryland tested Milto in the first and went ahead 1-0 before the Hoosiers' defense threw out Will Watson trying to extend a single to left field into a double. The 1-0 lead held until the bottom of the second when Dedelow took the first offering he saw from Taylor Bloom and sent it over the wall in right-center field.
The Terrapins came back to put up two runs in the fourth inning off of Madison Nickens home run to go back up, 3-1.
Houston led off the bottom of the fifth with his first collegiate home, pulling Indiana within one run, 3-2.
Maryland picked up two quick outs in the bottom of the seventh before senior Tony Butler singled to left field. Following a double by Lloyd, the Terrapins chose to intentionally walk sophomore Luke Miller to load the bases. Dedelow then sent a tape measure shot to left field on a 1-1 count, clearing the bases and putting Indiana up 6-3. The game was then sent into a 55-minute weather delay due to lightning.
Once play resumed, Lloyd tossed the top of the eighth to pick up the save. The game was called following the frame due to travel restrictions for the Terrapins.
Indiana will next face Xavier for a three-game set from Bart Kaufman Field, with first pitch of game one set for Friday, May 5 at 6:05 p.m.
