Hoosiers Face Off Against Tennessee

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University track and field will host their first meet of 2018 Saturday afternoon at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse. This dual meet between the Hoosiers and the Volunteers started in 1982 and continued through the late 90's.
The rivalry meet was brought back in 2016 making this matchup the third consecutive season the two teams have competed. Tennessee leads the all-time series 14-8 on the men's side and 9-3-1 on the women's side.
The meet will begin promptly at noon with the women's field events and the women's 60m hurdles finals. The meet will conclude with the men's 4x400 relay starting approximately at 2:40 p.m.
Each event will be scored. First place will register five points, second will receive three points and the third place finisher will be awarded one point. The winning relay squad will secure five points.
Last season the Hoosiers swept the Volunteers. The men won with a score of 71.5-49.5. The men's team won nine events, including sweeps in the 800m and mile. The women won with a score of 65-53. The women's team won seven events, including sweeps in the 400m, 800m, mile and 3,000m.
This is the Hoosiers second meet of the indoor track and field season. At the Hoosier Open there were four meet records set, two facility records set and one American Junior record set.
Redshirt freshman Ben Veatch set a new American Junior record with his performance in the 5K (13:57.27).
The Hoosier Open records were set by redshirt junior Kyle Mau in the 3000m (8:07.44), senior Daniel Kuhn in the 500m (1:01.35) and junior Willie Morrison (unattached) in the shot put 19.50m (63'11 ¾"). Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur set a new Hoosier Open record in the women's 5K with the time of 15:48.10.
The Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse facility records were set by senior Daniel Kuhn in the 500m and redshirt junior Katherine Receveur in the women's 5K.
The Hoosiers currently have nine top-5 national rankings.
On the track the Hoosier men have three top-5 national rankings, redshirt freshman Ben Veatch is ranked No. 1 in the 5K, redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau is ranked No. 1 in the 3000m and senior Daniel Kuhn is ranked No. 1 in the 500m.
In the field the Hoosier men hold two top-5 national rankings, freshman Jyles Etienne is ranked second in the high jump with his mark of 2.21m (7'3") and redshirt senior Andrew Miller is ranked fifth in the weight throw with the mark of 21.03m (69'0").
On the track the Hoosier women have two top-5 national rankings, junior Haley Harris is ranked fifth in the country in the mile with the time of 4:52.55 and senior Kendell Wiles is ranked second in the country in the 500m with the time of 1:11.63.
In the field events the Hoosier women have two top-5 national rankings, sophomore Khayla Dawson is ranked third in the country in shot up with the mark of 16.61m (54'6"). Sophomore Jenna Jungels is ranked fourth in the country in the long jump with the mark of 6.03m (19'9.5").
Sophomore William Session will be making his season debut in the 60m hurdles. Session finished seventh overall in the 60m hurdles at the Big Ten Indoor Championships last season.
