IU Closes Out Regular Season Against No. 21 Penn State, Maryland

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer (7-7-2, 3-6-0 Big Ten) closes out the regular season this week as the Hoosiers host No. 21 Penn State (11-5, 7-2 Big Ten) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Maryland (4-8-5, 2-5-2 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon.
Both games will be streamed on BTN Plus. Admission to all IU Women's Soccer home games is free of charge.
SCOUTING PENN STATE
• The Nittany Lions, who are currently leading the Big Ten with 21 points, are riding a five-game winning streak. Last weekend, Penn State picked up a pair of 1-0 victories against Maryland and Rutgers. As a team, Penn State has netted 30 goals on the year, second-most in the conference behind Indiana. Kristin Schnurr is leading the way with seven goals and three assists. Frankie Tagliaferri has also proven dangerous with six goals. Junior goalkeeper Amanda Dennis has a 0.66 goals against average with 35 saves as Penn State's defense has surrendered just 10 goals this year.
• Penn State leads the all-time series, 23-1-2 with the lone IU victory coming in 1996. The last time the two teams met, the Hoosiers played then-No. 13 Penn State to a 1-1 draw in 2016 at Armstrong Stadium.
SCOUTING MARYLAND
• The Terrapins sit just below IU in the conference standings with nine points, coming in at 12th in the Big Ten. Maryland's two conference victories have come against Iowa and then-No. 14 Northwestern. Last weekend, Maryland fell to Penn State, 1-0, before battling Ohio State to a 1-1 draw. As a team, the Terrapins have netted 15 goals, led by six from Jarena Harmon. Rachel Egyed has spent the most time in goal, accumulating a 1.06 goals against average with 76 saves.
• The series between Indiana and Maryland is tied, 1-1-2. The last time the teams met, IU came away with a 1-0 victory in College Park in 2016.
LAST TIME OUT
• IU dropped a pair of road games last week, falling to No. 25 Northwestern, 2-1, before losing a heartbreaker to Illinois in double overtime, 1-0. Junior Allison Jorden netted her second goal of the season in the setback against the Wildcats. With nine total points, the Hoosiers are currently 11th in the Big Ten. The top eight teams advance to the Big Ten Tournament.

• Redshirt senior Mykayla Brown's 18 career goals is tied for seventh most in program history. Her five goals in Big Ten play is tied for second-most in program history for a single conference season (most-Kristin Arnold with 8 in 2007) and her 11 points is tied for fourth-most (most – Kristin Arnold with 16 in 2007). Brown's 11 career goals in Big Ten play is second all-time at Indiana (most – Kim Grodek with 12 from 2001-04).
• Abby Allen is leading the Hoosiers in scoring this season with seven goals and seven assists, as her 21 points are good for second-most in the Big Ten. In addition, her 21 points are the most in a single-season for a Hoosier since Lisa Nouanesengsy registered 25 points during the 2013 campaign and Allen ranks 10th in program history for single-season points.
• Senior Maya Piper's five assists in conference play are second-most in a single conference season in IU history (most – Rebecca Candler with 6 in 2013). Piper and Allen both have seven assists on the season, tied for seventh-most in program history.
• Goalkeeper Bethany Kopel's 81 saves are the most in the Big Ten. The sophomore already has 177 saves in her IU career, good for sixth all-time.
• The Hoosiers have gone to overtime six times this season, compiling a 1-3-2 record in those games.
