BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 21 Penn State on Thursday night at Bill Armstrong Stadium in the final home game of the season.
KEY MOMENTS
• Penn State struck first in the 22nd minute on a penalty kick after a foul was called on the Hoosiers inside the box. Emily Ogle converted for the Nittany Lions.
• Senior Abby Allen found the equalizer for the Hoosiers in the 27th minute on a fantastic one-touch effort from 20 yards. On the give-and-go, Allen dropped the ball off the junior Meghan Scott, who sent it right back to Allen for the goal.
• The Nittany Lions responded in the 38th minute on another goal from Ogle as she slotted the ball into the left post.
• IU nearly evened things up just minutes later after redshirt senior Mykayla Brown found the back of the net, however the goal was called off due to an offsides call.
• Penn State cushioned the lead late in the second half on goals from Frankie Tagliaferri and Shea Moyer.
NOTABLES
• Indiana falls to 7-8-2 on the year and 3-7 in Big Ten play, while Penn State improved to 12-5 with an 8-2 conference mark.
• The loss for IU eliminated the Hoosiers from a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.
• Allen now has eight goals on the season to go along with seven assists. Her 23 points on the year are the seventh-most in a single season in program history and are the most since Lisa Nouanesengey had 25 in 2013.
QUOTABLE
"Crazy game. I think everyone went through so many emotions. If you didn't watch this game live, you would look at the score and it wouldn't be indicative of what just happened in these 90 minutes. It hurt not going into the locker room at 2-2, but I thought overall effort today was fantastic. We looked more composed in the final third than we have in the couple games. It's just unfortunate that a great Penn State team capitalized on a couple of our mistakes.
We talked after the game about this group of seniors and how much they have meant to this program and to me personally in changing the culture at Indiana. I cannot get over that we have one of the best offenses in the conference and we are going to be sitting home in the postseason. As disappointed as we are, there's no way this team is going skip a beat at Maryland. We're going to get on that plane and be ready to get a result on Sunday."
