Indiana Earns Two Top-5 Finishes at B1G Championships

LINCOLN, Neb.—Indiana Cross Country concluded competition at the Big Ten Championship on Sunday afternoon. The men's team finished third while the women placed 5th to earn the Hoosiers two top five finishes on the day.
The Michigan women won their third straight Big Ten title with 57 points. Their in-state rival, Michigan State, took second place with 75 points. Wisconsin finished in third (89) while Penn State took fourth (103). The Hoosiers rounded out the top five with 110 points.
Alicia Monson from Wisconsin was the individual Big-Ten Champion as she finished the 6k race in a time of 19:49.3. Katherine Receveur was the first Hoosier to cross the finish line to take 6th overall in a time of 20:14.3. Maggie Allen followed close behind to come in 9th with a time of 20:21.0. Finishing third for Indiana and 28th overall, Bailey Hertenstein picked up a time of 20:52.5 with teammate Haley Harris crossing the finish line two spots later in 30th (20:54.8). Junior, Lexa Barrott was the next Hoosier to finish as she placed 39th over with a time of 21:11.6. Hannah Stoffel (21:36.9) and Kelsey Harris (21:42.4) finished five runner apart as they finished 52nd and 57th, respectively. Grace Walther rounded out the competition for Indiana with an 88th place finish in a time of 22:33.5.
On the men's side, Wisconsin swept the team and individual awards. The team finished with 38 points while Morgan McDonald repeated as the individual Big Ten Champion. Purdue took second in the team competition with 88 points. Indiana edged out Michigan by one point to take third place with 108 points. Michigan State rounded out the top-five with 11 points.
Kyle Mau had a strong day as he placed first for the Hoosiers and seventh overall (23:44.3). True freshman Dustin Horter competed in his first Big Ten Championships of his career as he notched a 14th place finish with a time of 24:06.1. Bryce Millar (24:22.3) and Joe Murphy (24:23.5) finished almost back to back to take 24th and 26th. Arjun Jha made his Big Ten Championships debut as he had a hard fought 39th place finish in a time of 24:38.7. Reese Jordan was the sixth Hoosier to finish the 8K race as he placed 42nd overall with a time of 24:44.8. Following close behind Jordan was senior Kyle Burks who took 46th overall. Daniel Michalski continued to make improvements as placed 48th (24:53.7). Hunter Moore rounded the competition for the Hoosiers as he placed 65th with a time of 25:09.0.
Big Ten All-Conference teams were selected following competition on Sunday afternoon. Receveur and Mau were First Team selections while Allen and Horter found themselves on the second team for their efforts at the Championships.
Up next, Indiana will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the NCAA Great Lake Regional Championships on Nov. 8.
