BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Redshirt junior forward Brenna Wise hit a baseline jumper with 1:08 to play and a defensive stand in the final second helped Indiana to its seventh-straight season opener win, a 68-66 victory over Milwaukee on Wednesday night.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Hoosiers led 17-14 at the end of 1st after an Ali Patberg pull up with four seconds left in the opening frame gave IU the advantage.
- It was an evenly matched second quarter, as both teams scored 16 points in the frame to put IU up 33-30 at the break.
- In the third, IU stretched its lead out to five less than a minute in but Milwaukee would tie things back up at 40-all with 4:30 remaining on a pair of 3-pointers. IU once again regained a five-point lead but the Panthers triple with four seconds remaining in the third gave IU a narrow 49-47 advantage.
- In the fourth, Indiana held its largest lead as it jumped out a 63-54 with 4:40 remaining as part of a 14-4 run. Milwaukee would respond to tie things up at 63-all while Penn regained the lead with 1:57 to go in the game on a baseline floater.
- Jamie Reit's 3-pointer for the Panthers in the following possession swung the lead back to Milwaukee. But in nearly the exact same spot as Penn, Wise would step up on the right baseline and drain a jumper with 1:08 left and giving IU the lead back for good.
- On a missed free throw attempt from Milwaukee, senior forward Kym Royster would grab a crucial rebound and be fouled where she made one in the bonus with 1.2 seconds left. With the ball advanced to its half court, the Panthers would be thwarted by the IU defense and not get a shot off as time expired.

QUOTABLE
"It's nice to get a win. Sometimes as I said, they're not always pretty wins but you have to have some guts down the stretch. We couldn't hang on to our lead, but we needed a basket. I thought Jaelynn (Penn) came up big. We needed a stop and came up big. Kym (Royster) goes 1-for-2 from the free throw line and then at the end Milwaukee just ran out of time. We got off to a slow start. I felt like we got some really good shots. They were either in and out or they were short, for the most part. We'll have to go back. I felt like we did get some good shots, I just felt like we were in a hurry. The game, the pace of both teams trying to get up and down the floor. Defensively we are still a work in progress, there's no question about that. We got a long way to go to be as good as we need to be for Big Ten play. I give Milwaukee a lot of credit. That's a really good team, well coached, good pieces, got the inside presence, got shooters on the outside. I was very impressed with Milwaukee tonight. We were just lucky enough to get possession where we scored and get a stop and get to the free throw line. It's good for our kids, I'm happy for them, but as I said to them, we've got a lot of work to do."
