BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University track and field team closed out their indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Championships at Gilliam Indoor Facility on the campus of Texas A&M University. The men's team finished 34th in the team standings with seven points. The women's team finished 37th overall with five points.
Head coach Ron Helmer added eleven All-Americans to his records, making his total an impressive 453. After this weekend, the Hoosiers come home with one six-time All-American, one four-time All-American, one three-time All-American, two two-time All-Americans and six first-time All-Americans.
The women's distance medley relay (DMR) team consisting of senior Brenna Calder, freshman Natalie Price, junior Kelsey Harris and redshirt junior Katherine Receveur made school history with their fourth place finish. They are the first DMR team in Hoosier history to earn All-American honors.
They crossed the finish line with the time of 10:54.93, shredding about six second off of their qualifying time of 11:00.77. The Hoosiers now have the top two times in the Big Ten record books. They are now the eighth fastest school of all time and the 14th fastest collegiate time ever run.
Kelsey Harris earned her first All-American honors and ran the fastest 800m carry of the championships with the time of 2:03.81, which is a new personal record. Calder ran a season best 1200m carry with the time of 3:21.56 and collected her second All-American title. Receveur, a six-time All-American, ran a season best 1600m carry with the time of 4:35.97. Price ran the second fastest 400m carry of the championships with the time of 53.52 in her Indoor NCAA Championships debut, just short of her 53.20 personal record, earning her first All-American title.
The men's DMR team consisting of junior Joe Murphy, freshman Zubin Muncherji, redshirt freshman Teddy Browning and redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau took seventh with the time of 9:35.17, earning All-American honors. This is the seventh time in the last 10 years that the men's DMR team has scored at the Indoor NCAA Championships. Muncherji and Browning collected their first All-American honors and Murphy is now a two-time All-American.
Mau is now a three-time All-American after earing two All-American honors this past weekend. First, with the DMR team. Second, with his 14th place finish in the 3000m. Mau the first Hoosier to qualify for the 3000m at the Indoor NCAA Championships since Andy Bayer and Zach Mayhew did so in 2013.
Four-time All-American, Daniel Kuhn finished fourth in a strong 800m finals. The senior ran a season best time of 1:47.37, which puts him in the Hoosier record books as the best Indoor NCAA Championships finish since Keith Allen took third in 1988.
In the field, redshirt senior Andrew Miller closed out his senior year by earning his career first All-American honors. He is the first Hoosier to ever qualify for the Indoor NCAA Championships in the men's weight throw. He finished 14th overall, making him the first Hoosier to earn the All-American title in the weight throw.
Assistant coach Cory Martin has been the throwing coach for a total of four seasons. This year marks the third consecutive year that the Hoosiers have been represented in throwing events at the Indoor NCAA Championships including: Nakel McClinton (2016), Willie Morrison (2017) and Andrew Miller (2018).
Junior Treyton Harris is the first Hoosier to qualify for the championships in the men's long jump since Kiwan Lawson did so eleven years ago. Harris earned his career first All-American honors when he finished 14th overall.
