
Big Ten Rowing Championships Set For Sunday in Indianapolis

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – The Indiana Rowing team will join the seven other Big Ten programs at Eagle Creek Park on Sunday for the Big Ten Rowing Championship. The first race is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. and the awards ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m.
The Hoosiers will look for performances up and down the lineup that would enhance their resume to be selected for the NCAA Championship early next week. A good finish at the Big Ten Championship would go a long way towards securing a spot with the conference currently placing six of the eight schools in the USRowing/CRCA Top 20.

WASZ NAMED TO USROWING WORLD UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM
Indiana senior Emily Wasz was one of 12 athletes selected to participate with USRowing at the World University Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China from Aug. 10-12. The Illinois native joined the Indiana rowing program without any rowing experience and has helped guide the Hoosiers to three straight NCAA Championship appearances and is looking for a fourth appearance this season.
HOOSIERS WIN DALE ENGLAND CUP IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS
The Indiana Hoosiers had to battle not just three other high-level opponents in Notre Dame, Duke and Penn, but also windy conditions that made Lake Lemon difficult to navigate. In the end, it was the 1V4 that highlighted the day for IU by winning their race while the 2V8 finished in a dead heat with Notre Dame and the 1V8 finished second. When the team points were totaled up, Indiana had claimed the Dale England Cup title with 60 points while Penn was second with 54 points.
1V4 CONTINUES STRONG SPRING WITH SECOND PLACE FINISH AT CLEMSON INVITATIONAL
Behind a strong performance from the 1V4, the Hoosiers captured fourth place at the always strong Clemson Invitational that featured 21 teams. The 1V4 finished second in their morning heat and then followed that effort with a second place finish in the "A" final, falling to Ohio State by just over two seconds.
The 1V8 closed with a fifth place performance in the A Final and the 2V8 matched that with a fifth place finish in their A Final. In the team standings, Ohio State came in first followed by Virginia, Wisconsin and Indiana and the Hoosiers one point ahead of Southern California and 14 points ahead of Washington State.
IU OPENS 2018 CLAIMING TEAM TITLE AT DOC HOSEA INVITATIONAL
Behind a strong performance from the first varsity 8 and both varsity 4's, the Hoosiers accumulated 108 points to win the team title at the Doc Hosea Invitational on March 31.
The 1V8 won their morning heat and then pulled away for the win by nearly three seconds over Dartmouth and Syracuse in the Grand Final. The 1V4 and 2V4 both put forth commanding performances in their morning and Grand final heats to win by six and nine seconds, respectively.
UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS FOR THE HOOSIERS
The Indiana Rowing program is in the midst of unprecedented success for the program, as they have made four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Championship in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Those four appearances marked the first three appearances in the NCAA Championship in program history.
In 2014, the Hoosiers finished 11th as a team and were led by the ninth-place finish of the 1V4 while the 1V8 finished 10th and the 2V8 came in 14th.
In 2015, Indiana once against finished 11th as a team with the 1V8 leading the way with another 10th place finish while the 2V8 checked in with a 11th place finish and the 1V4 registered a 13th place finish.
In 2016, Indiana finished 15th as a team with the 1V4 crew leading the way with a 12th place finish. The 2V8 crew finished fourth in the C final to take 14th place overall and the 1V8 earned a 16th place finish at the NCAA Championships.
In 2017, IU recorded a 12th place finish as a team with the 1V8 leading the way with a 12th place finish. The 2V8 won the C final to bring home 13th place and the 1V4 garnered 14th place by finishing second in their C final.
