Hoosiers Send 15 to U23 World Team Trials

Cronin put Hoosiers on podium in Friday’s Greco-Roman action
AKRON, Ohio – The 2018 UWW Cadet and U23 World Team Trial Qualifiers began on Friday afternoon on the University of Akron campus, one of the premier summer events in collegiate and cadet wrestling. Representing Indiana University are 15 athletes, including five starters from last year's dual meet lineup, across the freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines on display.
This year's event runs from Friday, June 1 to Sunday, June 3, but the offseason tournament series occurs annually at Akron's Louis & Freda Stile Athletics Field House. The weekend's Greco-Roman tournaments took place on Friday, while the freestyle tournaments will run from Saturday to Sunday. Follow all the action on FloWrestling.org.
Cronin Captures Third-Place in Greco-Roman 60kg Bracket
Rising junior Liam Cronin got the Hoosiers going with a podium placement on the first day of action, taking third-place in the U23 Greco-Roman tournament at 60kg. Cronin dropped his first match but responded with three wins in a row for IU's first podium landing of the weekend.
Another IU grappler, redshirt sophomore Davey Tunon, joined Cronin in Greco-Roman competition at 72kg, going 1-2 in his matches.
Cronin entered the consolation bracket and kept his day alive with a 10-2 win in 5:09 over Rashun Lawrence (Backyard WC) in the consolation quarterfinals, followed by an 8-0 win in 0:49 against Hunder Starner (Peninsula Wrestling Association). In the third-place bout, Cronin flipped a 3-1 first period deficit with eight unanswered points in the second period for a 9-3 win over Scott Arneson (Southern Exposure).
Indiana Enters 14 in U23 Freestyle Tournaments
Hoosier fans can follow 14 wrestlers in action on Saturday and Sunday in the freestyle tournaments. The first session will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET, and they'll pick up the second session at 4:00 p.m. ET. Sunday's finals and placement matches will run from 9:30 a.m. ET to 3:00 p.m.
