Hoosiers Travel to the Bronx to Compete in Meet of Champions

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's and women's cross country teams will travel to the Big Apple this weekend to compete in the Meet of Champions, hosted by Iona on Friday morning.
The men's 8k race is set to take off at 10:00 am EST at Van Courtlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. with the women 5k race schedule to following at 10:45 am EST. The Hoosiers will compete against 20 teams including Miami (Ohio), Rutgers, Fordham, and Columbia.
The men's race will feature the season debut for four Hoosiers. Junior Kyle Mau will lace up his spikes for the first time of the 2018 season along with teammates sophomore Teddy Browning and senior Joe Murphy. Freshman Dustin Horter will line up at the start wearing the IU candy stripes for this first time in his collegiate career.
The remaining six Hoosier men who will compete Friday morning return to competition after winning the Miami Opener hosted by Miami at the end of August. Freshman Reese Jordan travels to the Bronx after being the top IU performer in his collegiate debut. Sophomore Hunter Moore, junior Bryce Millar, graduate student Kenneth Hagen, senior Kyle Burks, and freshman Aaron Bennett will round out the team for the Hoosiers.
The women's team is currently ranked 20th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) coaches' poll. They travel New York with a total of 11 athletes with the Meet of Champions being the season debut for four of them. Big Ten Champion Katherine Receveur will line up at the start for the first time this season and will be joined by teammate senior Maggie Allen. Freshman Bailey Hertenstein and freshman Sarah Schmitt will wear the cream and crimson for the first time in their career.
Junior Lexa Barrott returns to the field after winning the Miami Opener 6k race last month. Barrott will run alongside of teammates freshman Claire Hamilton, senior Haley Harris, freshman Josey Korte, junior Kelsey Harris, sophomore Hannah Stoffel, and sophomore Joely Pinkston.
