EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The No. 2-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team won its seventh-straight match on Friday night, beating Evansville at McCutchan Stadium, 5-0.
KEY MOMENTS
• In the 13th minute, the Hoosiers (7-1) grabbed an early lead on Andrew Gutman's team-leading sixth goal of the season. Griffin Dorsey made a great run to find space on the left, drawing out the Evansville (1-4-3) goalkeeper. The sophomore crossed it across frame and found Gutman for the empty-net tap-in.
• Austin Panchot doubled the team's lead in the 29th minute, collecting a rebound off a Jordan Kleyn shot from 10-yards out.
• Just 18 seconds later, Gutman played Justin Rennicks in to space on the left side. The sophomore calmly finished from eight-yards out to push IU's lead to 3-0.
• In the 44th minute, Jeremiah Gutjahr played a great chip pass to find Rece Buckmaster in space on the left side. Buckmaster crossed the ball to A.J. Palazzolo, who buried his third goal of the season from close range.
• Dorsey netted his third goal of the season in the 74th minute, scoring from eight-yards out after Gutman played him into space on the right side.
NOTABLES
• With the victory, Indiana has won seven-straight matches, the best streak since winning eight-consecutive last season.
• Indiana's 21 goals through the first eight matches of the season are the most for the program since scoring 23 in the first eight games in 1998.
• IU's five goals in a road game are the most for the team since beating Wisconsin, 5-1, on Oct. 14, 2005.
QUOTABLES
"Great efficiency I thought tonight. We didn't get as many chances that you'd relate to five goals that we normally have. That was a little bit of last year. You get a lot of chances this year, and it seems like we've been more efficient. It was great to get some other guys in the game tonight who work their tails off every day, so I thought we were able to rotate players. Again another shutout, pleased. A lot of good takeaways. The good news too, is we can play better and the team knows that. Again, an efficient win tonight."
-- Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley
"It's always good to make saves, being involved in the game is a good thing. I think a couple of times though, those saves we just needed to kind of clean up defensive mistakes, errors and different parts of our play. From there, it's good to be involved in the game and help my team get the win and the shutout, but we also have to tighten things up, clean it up too. It's a good and a bad thing."
