No. 4 Indiana Hosts VCU on Friday Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team will host the VCU Rams on Friday, Sept. 7.
The match is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. ET at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. The match will be streamed live via BTN Plus on BTN2Go.com and live stats can be found at IUHoosiers.com.
SETTING THE SCENE
• The No. 4-ranked Indiana Hoosiers will host the VCU Rams on Friday night at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium at 8:00 p.m. ET.
• On Sunday, the Hoosiers posted the team's third-straight shutout win over a ranked opponent, beating No. 18 UConn, 1-0, on a goal from Andrew Gutman.
• Friday's match against VCU will mark IU's first against a non-ranked opponent this season. The Rams, however, are 3-1 on the season and were tabbed to finish second in the Atlantic 10 in a preseason poll conducted of the league's coaches.
NEWS AND NOTES
• Senior D Andrew Gutman was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for the first time in his Hoosier career. Last season, Gutman was named Second-Team All-America by the United Soccer Coaches after helping the Hoosiers lead the NCAA in shutouts (18) and goals allowed (7). The First-Team All-Big Ten and All-Midwest Region selection also netted seven goals on the year and added four assists.
• Both Gutman and sophomore GK Trey Muse earned preseason All-America accolades from both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer New
• Gutman, Muse and senior MF Francesco Moore were all named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List, as the Hoosiers were unanimously picked as the league's favorites in a poll conducted of the conference's head coaches.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
• VCU was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 in a tight race with Fordham for the top spot. VCU earned 149 points and four first-place votes, while Fordham had 158 points and six first-place votes in the poll.
• MF Siad Haji was named to the Preseason All-Atlantic 10 team and leads the Rams with two goals and an assist this season.
• After losing the first match of the season to Georgia Southern, 2-0, the Rams have reeled off three-straight wins against Radford, Temple and Santa Clara.
• Friday's match vs. the Hoosiers will be VCU's first away from Richmond, Va. this season.
SERIES HISTORY
• Friday's match between the Hoosiers and the Rams will be the third all-time meeting, with the series tied at 1-1-0.
• IU defeated VCU, 5-0, in the NCAA Tournament in 2003 in Bloomington, but fell on the road in Richmond in 2013, 1-0.
THREE-STRAIGHT
• Indiana posted three-straight, shutout victories against ranked opponent for the first time since 2012.
• IU beat No. 3 North Carolina (1-0), No. 22 Dartmouth (3-0) and No. 18 UConn (1-0) during the stretch.
DORSEY NAMED TO USMNT U-20 TEAM
• Sophomore Griffin Dorsey was named to the U.S. Men's National Team roster for the 2018 U-20 Men's Invitational tournament at IMG Academy in Brandenton, Fla. from Sept. 7-11.
• The U.S. U-20 Men's National Team will face Venezuela and Jamaica, as well as square off against the U.S. U-19 team in the round-robin style competition.
GUTMAN, MUSE EARN BIG TEN, NATIONAL HONORS
• Andrew Gutman was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the National Player of the Week by College Soccer News and also to both National Teams of the Week by College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer after scoring game-winning goals against No. 22 Dartmouth and No. 18 UConn.
• Trey Muse was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and also earned Honorable-Mention National Team of the Week honors from Top Drawer Soccer after posting shutouts against No. 22 Dartmouth and No. 18 UConn.
MUSE MOVING UP
• With his two shutouts this season, Trey Muse ranks 12th in Indiana history with 20 career blank sheets.
• Muse's 20 shutouts are even more impressive considering he has played in only 29 career matches.
