BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Four players in double figures and a late rally weren't enough as IU fell to Northwestern, 75-69, on Wednesday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Hoosiers (15-3, 4-2 B1G) struggled offensively in the first quarter, shooting just 20 percent and kept off the board until the 4:40 mark. Northwestern, on the other hand, came out hot shooting 50 percent from the field in the opening quarter.
- IU came within four after a baseline jumper from redshirt junior forward Brenna Wise with xx to go. Northwestern stretched its lead out to 11 as sophomore guard Bendu Yeaney's 3-pointer off the backboard gained momentum in IU's favor, down IU down 18-10.
- It took until the 7:07 mark in the second quarter for the Hoosiers to get on the board on a Penn 3-pointer. Wise scored six of her eight first half points with a pair at the line that cut the deficit down to eight with less than three minutes to play. But the Wildcats (10-7, 3-3 B1G) seemed to have the answer as a it would go up 37-26 at the break.
- Battling in the third, the Hoosiers trimmed the deficit to as few as six, 43-36, with a Yeaney who got fouled in transition and made two at the line. But a quick 8-0 run midway through the frame put Northwestern back up 15 heading into the fourth, 57-42.
- A late push in the fourth saw Indiana win the final quarter, 27-18. A 3-pointer from redshirt junior guard Ali Patberg brought it to within eight, 71-63. Three straight buckets from IU in the final 30 seconds of play helped but IU was forced to foul to stop the clock as the Wildcats hit nine at the line to close it out.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Teri Moren
Obviously, we are disappointed. We got off to a really slow start. We did not see our shots go down and allowed that to affect us defensively. They were much better than we were on the boards. They outrebounded us 42-29. That is a grittiness category and that was very frustrating to watch. Tonight, I think Northwestern just came in and they were the tougher team and that is disappointing. We have to circle back and figure out why they were tougher than we were tonight, fix it, and then move on because it does not get any easier."
