BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– Indiana University Athletics and Kathy and Steve Shuel hosted the Academic Excellence Dinner this week.
The event brought together a record 39 student-athletes who were honored for their academic excellence.
"We are tremendously proud of these individuals for the record-setting number 39 straight A students during the spring semester," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass. "This level of success speaks first and foremost to our students' commitment in the classroom, but also the support they receive from their coaches and our academic services staff. We are thrilled to honor them, and thankful to Steve and Kathy Shuel for making this highlight event a reality."
The event was hosted by Kathy and Steve Shuel at Uptown Café in Bloomington. Kathy and Steve have helped honor over 150 student-athletes with 298 awards in the last eight years.
Indiana men's tennis student-athlete Payam Ahmadi was honored as one of the 39 student-athletes, who earned a 4.0. Ahmadi is majoring in media with a minor in law and public policy.
"Academics are everything at the end of the day and there are so many amazing opportunities at IU," Ahmadi said. "We are fortunate to have administrators, staff coaches and teammates, who want to work with us to make us better."
For their contributions, IU Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass presented Kathy and Steve Shuel with Bicentennial Medals, honoring distinguished and distinctive service.
The Bicentennial Medal is awarded to organizations and individuals who, through their personal, professional, artistic, or philanthropic efforts, have broadened the reach of Indiana University around the state, nation, and world.
