Hoosiers Cannot Overcome Early Deficit To Kent State

Bloomington, Ind.— Indiana Field Hockey got a break from conference play on Sunday when they hosted the Kent State Golden Flashes. The Hoosiers gave up two early goals and could not recover in a 5-1 loss. Sophomore Hailey Couch scored the lone goal for Indiana.

Indiana will get back into conference play on Friday, Oct. 11 when they travel to Piscataway, NJ to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 3 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- Kent State scored two goals in the fourth and tenth minutes by Claudia Ortiz and senior freshman Berta Jover Llorens to take an early 2-0 lead.
- Freshman Maria Cambra Soler extended the Golden Flashes' lead in the 11th minute on an assist from junior Clara Rodriguez Seto.
- Couch put the Hoosiers on the board for the only time in the game in the 19th minute on an assist by senior captain Kelsey Giese.
- The Golden Flashes added to their lead in the 32nd and 47th minutes on goals from sophomore Luisa Knapp and junior Hailie Balachick.
- With the loss, Indiana falls to 4-7 on the season and stays at 1-3 in the Big Ten.
- The Hoosiers fall for the first time to the Golden Flashes but still lead the all-time series 4-1.
- Redshirt sophomore Shelby Querry recorded her first three saves of the season.
- Couch scored her team leading seventh goal of the season.
