Strong Defensive Play Continues in Hoosiers 1-0 Win Over Minnesota

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana Women's Soccer defeated Minnesota on Sunday afternoon 1-0 to give the Hoosiers their third straight scoreless match. Chandra Davidson had the lone goal of the contest for Indiana.

KEY MOMENTS
• Freshman Avery Lockwood earned the first shot of the contest on Sunday in the 10th minute of action but the Golden Gopher's goalkeeper was there for the save.
• Minnesota got a good look in the 16^th minute on target as Bethany Kopel picked up her first save.
• In the 36^th minute, senior captain Chandra Davidson netted the Hoosiers goal off a long ball from Wos to make it a 1-0 game.
• The Golden Gophers earned a pair of dangerous chances in the 70^th minute on a pair of corners Minnesota's first shot was saved by defender Meghan Scott before their other opportunity was saved by Bethany Kopel.
• Junior Melanie Forbes recorded the first Indiana shot of the second half in the 74^th minute. The ball would miss the net wide right.
• Indiana saw a strong defensive third to the end the match and would take the victory, 1-0.

NOTABLES
• With Sunday's win Indiana improves to 6-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Big Ten.
• Bethany Kopel pitched her sixth shutout of the season and ended the afternoon with two saves. The Hoosiers have held opponents scoreless through 299:32 minutes of action since letting up a goal to in the 71^st minute on Sept. 22 against Nebraska.
• The last time Indiana has shutout their opponent in three straight matches was in 2015 when they left Baylor, Missouri, and SIUE scoreless.
• Chandra Davidson led the Hoosiers with one shot and one goal. Melanie Forbes, Avery Lockwood, and Oliwia Wos also notched a shot each. Indiana was outshot by the Golden Gophers, 7-4.

"Big 10 wins are hard to come by, so we are very pleased with the performance today. Our defensive organization was very good and we never really got caught in transition. On the ball we weren't as good as have been at times but one good build up to invite their press, a great pass in behind Minnesota's backline from Oliwia to Chandra did it for us today. Extremely happy for Chandra to get the game winning goal. Overall a very good weekend."

UP NEXT
Indiana will open up next weekend at home with Penn State on Thursday, Oct. 10 for the annual Pink Game. Action will start at 6p. The Hoosiers will then host Ohio State on Sunday to close out the home stand.
