
Hoosiers Remain Home to Host Penn State Friday, Ohio State on Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer (6-5-1, 2-2-1) opens a two-game homestand on Thursday at 6p vs. Penn State (7-6-1, 3-3-0). The Hoosiers will then return to action on Sunday at 12p to host the Ohio State Buckeyes (4-7-1, 2-3). Thursday's match will air live on BTN while Sunday's game can be viewed on BTN+.

SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
• Penn State faced a weekend split last week. On Thursday, the Nittany Lions dropped a 3-2 contest against Rutgers who were receiving votes in last week's coaches poll. In their match on Sunday at Ohio State, Penn State was able to put the Buckeyes comeback to a halt and win the contest, 3-2. Ally Schlegel leads the Nittany Lions attack with eight goals and one assist for a total of 17 points so far this season. In front of the net, Amanda Dennis has played 573:42 minutes with 18 saves.
• The Nittany Lions have a 24-1-2 lead in the all-time series. Last time the two teams met in 2018 the Penn State offense was too potent as the Hoosiers fell, 4-1.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
• Ohio State is coming off a home weekend where the Buckeyes faced Maryland and Penn State, In the game against the Terrapins, Ohio State netted a goal in the 30th minute of action proved to be the difference as the Buckeyes won 1-0. On Sunday, Ohio State's comeback fell short against Penn State and dropped the contest, 3-2. Kayla Fisher and Marissa Birzon lead the Buckeyes squad with four goals each. Fischer has also tallied three assists this season. Standing guard of the net, Jordan Silkowitz has tallied 920 minutes with 34 saves. Goalkeeper Bailey Kolinski has come in as the reliever to notch a record of 3-1-0 with four saves.
• The Buckeyes hold a 14-12-1 advantage in the all-times series. In 2017 the Hoosiers tried to mount a comeback but fell short, 2-1.
LAST TIME OUT
• Two games, two game winners. The Hoosiers kicked off last weekend at Illinois on Thursday under the lights. The match was tied with just 10 minutes left in regulation before freshman Avery Lockwood sunk the game winner off a feed from fellow freshman Jacelyn Smith. The Hoosiers returned home Sunday to face Minnesota. In the 36th minute Oliwia Wos played the long ball into the box that found Chandra Davidson for the goal. The Hoosiers would hang on for the win, 1-0.
WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
• Thursday's match against Penn State will serve as International Night and Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. Hosted in conjunction with the IU Office of International Studies, show your country's pride by wearing jerseys or bringing flags to match. The first 150 fans in attendance will also receive a free sandwich from Chick-Fil-a.
•Sunday contest vs. Ohio State will be the annual Pink Game. First 150 fans will receive a free pink IU t-shirt. Also, be sure to get there by halftime in order to attend the men's soccer game vs. Michigan at 3p.
NONCONFERENCE WRAPUP
• The Hoosiers ended non-conference play on a three-game win streak. The carry a 4-3 record that includes wins over UIC, Morehead State, UT Martin, and Kentucky.
• Of Indiana's seven non-conference games on the schedule, just two were played home (UIC and Morehead State).
• Indiana's non-conference road slate included three different states - North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
• Four freshmen have earned starts so far this season – Alaina Kalin, Avery Lockwood, Bria Telemaque and Jaimie Tottleben. In addition, sophomore transfer Oliwia Wos has also started each of the first five contests.
• Lockwood and Kalin each scored their first career goals on Sunday. Kalin added her first career assist, as did freshman Jaimie Tottleben and sophomores Madeline Carlson and Megan Wampler.
NEWS AND NOTES
• The Hoosiers have tallied eight goals in the second half compared to their opponents five.
• Junior goalkeeper Bethany Kopel has 215 saves in her career, good for fifth all-time at Indiana. In addition, her 13.0 shutouts are tied for sixth all-time in program history, while her 18 victories are seventh.
• Indiana has shut out its opponent for the third straight game
after shutting out Michigan on Sept. 29, Illinois on Oct. 3 and Minnesota on Oct. 6. This is the first time since 2015 that the Hoosiers have shutout three straight opponents.
• Thursday night's 1-0 victory over Illinois was Head Coach Erwin van Bennekom's first Big Ten win at the helm of Indiana Women's Soccer.
• Davidson earned the title of team captain for the season.
