BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– The Indiana wrestling team is back at it this week as they will have 14 wrestlers compete at the Journeyman tournament in Troy, N.Y. on Nov. 10 and nine athletes compete at the Ohio Open in Cleveland, Ohio, on Nov. 10.
The Hoosiers opened the season at the Michigan State Open last weekend. Indiana had 10 top-six finishes, four finalists and two champions. Brock Hudkins at 125 and Nick Willham in the freshman/sophomore 197 both earned titles.
Follow the MSU Open, Hudkins soared in the ranking. He is currently ranked eighth by FloWrestling, ninth by Intermat and 12th by TrackWrestling.
The level of competition and success of the Hoosiers young wrestlers is something that IU head coach Angel Escobedo said will be important for the team.
"The one thing we have been trying to gain in the program is for it to be a lot more competitive to make the team," Escobedo said. "Our freshmen are pushing our upperclassmen and knocking on the door of beating them, which is good. It is going to elevate everyone and that is what we are looking for this season."
The Journeyman tournament will include wrestlers from NC State, Purdue, Oklahoma, West Virginia and more.
