Bloomington, Ind. – Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass announced today that a recent series of $1 million-plus gifts have helped IU Athletics surpass its lofty $215 million fundraising goal for the Bicentennial Campaign for Indiana Athletics, with more than six months left in the campaign.
During the last quarter of 2019, IU Athletics has secured commitments for three $1 million gifts and one $2 million gift to push it past its aggressive Bicentennial fundraising goal with six months remaining in the campaign, which ends June 30, 2020. The $215 million campaign goal is nearly three times the $80 million goal from Athletics' last capital campaign, which ended in 2010.
"We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Hoosiers for our Bicentennial Campaign, which is already having a transformative effect on the academic and athletic opportunities for our students for generations to come," said Glass. "With six months remaining in the campaign, we will run through the tape to continue to position our department for success in Indiana University's third century."
Details regarding these four major gifts will be announced in the coming weeks.
First announced in 2016 in conjunction with the campus-wide "For All: The Bicentennial Campaign for Indiana University," the Bicentennial Campaign for Indiana Athletics is the largest and most ambitious fundraising effort in department history and has been a big part of transforming the IU Athletics campus. Among the projects either completed or in progress as part of the Bicentennial Campaign for Indiana Athletics are the renovation of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall; the Mark Cuban Center for Sports Media and Technology; the Memorial Stadium South End Zone Excellence Academy; Wilkinson Hall; The Pfau Course at Indiana University; the Terry Tallen Football Complex; the new cross country course; and the Bill Armstrong Stadium renovation.
