Hoosiers Split Matches Against Notre Dame, Saint Louis

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team narrowly lost a 4-3 match to Notre Dame, but came back for a 4-0 win against Saint Louis on Sunday at the IU Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers (6-2) got off to a good start against the Fighting Irish as they won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Notre Dame countered with wins at No. 6 and No. 1 singles to take a 2-1 lead. Michelle McKamey evened the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win.
Caitlin Bernard battled back from down 5-3 in the second her to force a tiebreak. The tiebreak went back and forth until Bess Waldram of Notre Dame won it 12-10. Notre Dame added a clinching point at No. 4 singles.
Senior Natalie Whalen came back from a first set loss to win her second set and go into a 10-point tiebreak for the third set. Whalen trailed 8-5, but came back to win it, 13-11.
Against Saint Louis the Hoosiers again won the doubles point with a 6-0 and 6-1 win.
Madison Appel put the Hoosiers up 2-0 and wins by Michelle McKamey and freshman Somer Henry clinched the match for the Hoosiers.
Up next Indiana goes on the road for the first time when they travel to Tennessee and Kentucky next week.
