
Hoosiers Wrap Up Weekend at Stanford Invite

Stanford, Calif. – Indiana water polo wrapped up their second weekend of competition out west at the Stanford invite. The Hoosiers faced three top-25 teams as well as China's international team while completing their first of six MPSF conference games.
Indiana opened up the second leg of the invite weekend with an upsetting lose during an exhibition match-up against China's international team. The Hoosiers went on to face No. 13 UC Davis where they finally found some offensive rhythm, but in the end were unable to hold off the Aggies.
Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Greeven took control of the Hoosiers defense this weekend, putting up a solid 24 saves during the three-game spread. Greeven grabbed a season high 11 saves against No. 13 UC Davis, nine against No. 4 Cal and another four in the battle against No. 2 Stanford for a career total 36 saves.
China International (Exhibition) 18, No. 19 Indiana 4
The Hoosiers power play unit was one of the vocal points of the game accounting for three of their four points. Unfortunately, China's offense got off to a hot start scoring nine goals in the first half leaving the Hoosiers in a difficult position to catch up.
The Hoosiers defense swiped a solid three steals and drew out seven exclusions against China. Freshman Hannah Falls-Hand earned four of the team's exclusions, while Lauren Etnyre contributed another two.
The Chinese international team proved to be a dominate squad, winning all five of their match-ups at the Stanford Invite.
No. 13 UC Davis 13, No. 19 Indiana 10
The Hoosiers fell behind early giving up two goals in the first quarter, but bounced back quickly scoring six goals in the second. Tina Doherty's hat trick helped close the gap for the Hoosiers, tying the game 6-6 going into half.
Lauren Etnyre also contributed a hat trick in the second half keeping the game close. She was able to show her talent on both sides of the ball, collecting six drawn exclusions and a steal against the Aggies.
In the end UC Davis was too strong to hold off for the Hoosiers, defeating Indiana by a close three points.

Indiana will have two weeks back in Bloomington to prepare for a rematch battle against No. 1 USC. The Hoosiers first met the Trojans two weeks ago at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invite. Indiana gave a strong defensive effort, but struggled to put points on the board resulting in a lob sided 11-1 loss.
This will mark Indiana's second MPSF conference match-up. The Hoosiers look to get first conference win and second overall win of the 2019 season.
