
IU Opens Spring Schedule At Big Ten Match Play

PALM COAST, Fla. – The Indiana men's golf team wraps up the fall portion of the 2018-19 season at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama this weekend. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday followed by 18 holes on Sunday.
Indiana is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Chatham Hills Collegiate with Ethan Shepherd and Jake Brown both collecting Top 6 finishes.

Brown To Compete in Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase
Senior Jake Brown will be one of 12 collegiate golfers to compete in the Collegiate Showcase in conjunction with the PGA TOUR's Genesis Open on Feb. 11. Brown will play alongside PGA TOUR professional and IU alum Chase Wright and two amateurs. However, Brown will play only his ball and play against the other 11 collegiate golfers in a stroke play competition with the winner earning an exemption into the Genesis Open that runs Feb. 14-17 at Riviera Country Club in California.
'Shepherd'-ing The Hoosiers
Sophomore Ethan Shepherd is second on the Hoosiers with a 72.72 scoring average through the first six tournaments. It is more than three strokes better than his freshman season scoring average. He also has a trio of Top 25 finishes this season while he had two such finishes in eight tournaments as a freshman. The Greenwood, Ind., native also has the two lowest rounds to par this year for IU, carding a 67 (-5) at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational to start the year and a 66 at Chatham Hills.

Junior Brock Ochsenreiter closed the fall with a second place finish at the Steelwood Intercollegiate, which means he has finished inside the Top 25 in 10 of his last 11 tournaments dating back to the 2017-18 season. He has also recorded rounds of 75 or better in 16 of 18 rounds this year.
What Can Brown Do?
After opening the year with a T12 finish at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, senior Jake Brown posted finishes of T49 and T62. But he showed once again that he thrives on difficult courses at the Maridoe Intercollegiate, where he carded scores of 77 and 74 in the first two rounds but then rallied to post 69 in the final round and tie for 14th. He followed that up with a T6 finish at Chatham Hills. It was the 13th career Top 15 finish for Brown in 38 events.
Newcomers
The Hoosiers welcome a pair of freshmen to the fold this season, and both will be making their collegiate debuts as individuals at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational. Mitch Davis (Valparaiso, Ind.) is a heralded recruit from the state of Indiana that has had a decorated junior career in the state and on the national stage. Harry Reynolds (Greenville, S.C.) won multiple times in South Carolina on the junior circuit and helped his high school team to their fifth straight team championship.
Davis opened his IU career with a stellar T7 finish at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational to start the year. He also has a T27 finish at Olympia Fields and a T33 finish at Chatham Hills on his ledger.
Reynolds has a pair of Top 25 finishes in three starts, highlighted by a T18 finish at Chatham Hills.
Tournament #1 Recap – Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational
The Indiana Hoosiers opened the 2018-19 season with a solid second place showing at the inaugural Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, posting a team score of 846 (282-284-280; -18). It is the best team score since 2016 and the Hoosiers were led by Ethan Shepherd and his score of 210 (70-73-67; -6) to tie for fifth, which was a career-best finish and was capped off with his career-best 18-hole score in the final round (67). Jack Sparrow (T7), Evan Gaesser (T10) and Jake Brown (T12) also finished inside the top 10. Mitch Davis, competing in his first collegiate tournament, tied for seventh at 5-under par.
Tournament #2 Recap – Olympia Fields Invitational
At one of the most elite fields in the country, the Hoosiers finished 11th out of 14 teams at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. Brock Ochsenreiter led the Hoosiers with a score of 216 (70-72-74; +6), which was good for a tie for 22nd. It marked his fifth Top 25 in his last six events for the Hooisers. Freshman Mitch Davis was also solid in his first appearance in the lineup, coming in tied for 27th at 8-over par.
Tournament #3 Recap – Windon Memorial
Junior Brock Ochsenreiter continued his strong play to start the 2018-19 season, finishing tied for eighth with a score of 214 (70-73-71; -2) at the Windon Memorial. Ethan Shepherd joined Ochsenreiter in the Top 25 after posting a score of 219 (70-77-72; +3) put him in a tie for 24th. As a team, the Hoosiers tied for 12th with a total score of 886.
Tournament #4 Recap – Maridoe Intercollegiate
At the Maridoe Intercollegiate, the Hoosiers finished 9th out of the 14-team field with a score of 903. Senior Jake Brown paced the Cream and Crimson with a score of 220 (77-74-69; +10) while Brock Ochsenreiter added another Top 25 finish as he tied for 24th with a score of 225 (76-77-72; +15).

The Hoosiers finished in fourth place out of 11 teams at Chatham Hills, with Ethan Shepherd (4th) and Jake Brown (T6th) earning Top 10 finishes. Jake Brown joined Ochsenreiter in the Top 25, finishing T22 with a score of 220.
