Hoosiers Head to Arizona for a Weekend Full of Conference Play

Bloomington, Ind. – The Indiana University water polo team heads to Tempe, AZ, home of the Arizona St. Sun Devils, for a two-game weekend of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference match ups. No. 22 Indiana will begin their quest out west on Friday with their first game against host No. 8 Arizona St. The Hoosiers will go on to face No. 3 UCLA on Saturday in their second top-25 game of the weekend.
Last Action
Last Thursday evening, Indiana hosted Wittenberg University for the first time in program history. The Hoosiers found great successes on the offensive end grabbing a season high and tying an all-time record of 23 goals, while holding the Tigers to only two goals throughout the game.
Indiana registered another season high of 21 assists, the fourth highest in Hoosier history. Freshman Tina Doherty and Hannah Falls-Hand also landed the number two spot on Indiana's single game all-time scoring record with six goals apiece. The Hoosiers posted 14 steals while drawing out three exclusions against the Tigers.
Leading the Way
Doherty leads the Hoosiers in scoring with 28 goals, while freshman Izzy Mandema trails close behind with 20. Junior Megan Abarta and freshman Molly McGuire also help contribute to the team's offensive efforts, each tossing a season high of 14 assists for a team total of 83. McGuire holds the team high of seven assists in a single game, which she collected last week during the game against Wittenberg.
On the defensive end, the Hoosiers have used their quick hands to grab a total of 117 steals. Junior Emily Powell has snatched 20 for Indiana, while Doherty has collected another 18. This week, freshman goalkeeper Sarah Greeven moved up to the No. 6 spot on the MPSF goalkeeper saves list, collecting a total of 77 saves across a 9-game spread.
Scouting the Sun Devils
The Sun Devils enter this weekend's match in their second round of conference play. Last weekend, Arizona St. opened up their first MPSF game with a 7-10 loss against No. 2 Stanford.
Senior attacker Maud Koopman leads ASU in scoring registering 36 goals this season, putting her fifth on the all-time Sun Devil career goals list with 158. Another top contender for the Sun Devils is junior Bente Rogger, who follows close behind Koopman with another 33 goals, averaging 2.06 goals per game.
Scouting the Bruins
Junior Maddie Musselman averages 2.5 goals per game, leading the Bruins with 40 goals so far this season, the third highest scoring record in the MPSF. UCLA's defense also ranks third in the MPSF allowing 138 goals this season for an average of 6.90 goals per game this season.

ASU – The Hoosiers will face the Sun Devils for the 14thtime in program history. Arizona St. holds the series lead with a 10-3 winning record over Indiana. The two teams last met twice during the 2018 season. The first matchup was in January at the UCSB Winter Invite before facing off once again at the Sun Devil Invite last March.
UCLA - The Bruins have proven to be a tough challenge for the Hoosiers as they have controlled an undefeated all-time series record of 12-0. Indiana last met UCLA in 2017 at the UCSB Winter Invite where the Hoosiers faced a 5-20 loss. The Hoosiers look to take home their first victory over the Bruins during this weekend's game.
