Hoosiers Head South to Compete at Arizona State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana Track & Field will kick off their outdoor campaign in the southwest as they compete at Arizona State at the Sun Devil Invitational on Mar. 22 & 23. The two day meet begins on Friday as Nycia Ford will compete first for the Hoosiers in the hammer throw at 1 p.m. PT. On Saturday, Anna Watson and Kara Deady will compete first in the pole vault starting at 3:30 p.m. PT.
Meet Schedule
The two-day meet will consist of 16 events—nine track events and seven field events.
Friday schedule (field)—Hammer & discus throw
Saturday Schedule (track)—4x100 relay, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 1500m, 400m, 100m, 800m, 400m, 200m, 3K, and 4x400 relay.
Saturday Schedule (field)—Pole vault, high jump, long jump, shot put, and triple jump.
Returning to the Oval
The Hoosiers come into the outdoor season with a seasoned squad. Redshirt senior Joe Murphy advanced to his first outdoor championships last season and looks to build off of it in his final season in the cream & crimson. The All-American advanced to the finals of the 1500m and placed third. William Session returns for his junior in the hurdles and make is fourth NCAA Championship appearance. On the women's side, Maggie Allen and Katherine Receveur will see the track one last time as they look to finish their collegiate career with a mark in the record books
Success in Tempe
Last season at the Arizona State Invitational, 13 personal records were set and three Hoosiers won their events on the track throughout the weekend.
In the Rankings
USTFCCCA announced their first outdoor ratings index on Monday Mar. 18. In the preseason ratings the Hoosiers men were ranked 24th while the women were tabbed for 30th.
Last Time Out: Indoor Championships
The Hoosiers are coming off of a successful indoor season that saw 17 individual All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The men's and women's DMR teams, Khayla Dawson (shot put), Kelsey Harris (800m), Ben Veatch (5000m) all were tabbed for first team honors. Eric Bethea (triple jump), Kyle Mau (mile & 3000m), Adam Coulon (pole vault), and Princess Brinkley (weight throw) picked up second team accolades. Overall, the men's team finished 18th while the women placed 35th. This is the highest finish for the men since the 2013 season.
