Hoosiers Defeat Iowa 7-1 to Sweep Series

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana baseball (15-8, 3-0 Big Ten) put together a 7-1 victory on Sunday afternoon to sweep the Iowa Hawkeyes.
KEY MOMENTS
• Freshman Grant Richardson laced a two-run home run the opposite way with two outs in the bottom of the first to give Hoosiers a 2-0 lead.
• The Hawkeyes got on the board in the top of the third as Trenton Wallace found the gap for an RBI double to trim the Hoosier lead to one run.
• Sophomore Elijah Dunham smacked a solo home run to center with one out in the bottom of the fourth to put Indiana ahead 3-1.
• Sophomore Drew Ashley gave the Hoosiers a three-run lead in the bottom of the fifth with a sac fly to left to score sophomore Justin Walker.
• Richardson continued his hot hitting with an RBI single through the left side to score senior Matt Lloyd in the bottom of the eighth. Junior Jeremy Houston followed that with a two-run single to center to put the Hoosiers ahead, 7-1.

• Head coach Jeff Mercer becomes the first head coach in program history to earn a sweep in his Big Ten opening series (three game series minimum).
• Indiana's eight-game winning streak is its longest since posting a nine-game streak last season from April 7th to the 20th.
• IU improves to 9-0 at Bart Kaufman Field this season. In the stadium's seven-year history, the Hoosiers boast a record of 121-37-1 (.764).
• Richardson went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. In his first nine career games, he is hitting .417 with 15 hits, 11 runs, three home runs and 17 RBI (tied for second on the team).
• Junior Andrew Saalfrank got the start and tossed two scoreless innings, while freshman Gabe Bierman (2 IP, 1 R), junior Cal Krueger (2 IP, 0 R), sophomore Connor Manous (2 IP, 0 R) and Lloyd (1 IP, 0 R) combined for seven innings of one-run (none earned) relief.
• Dunham finished the game 2-for-3 with the home run, two runs and a walk.
