Homestand Continues as Hoosiers Host Maryland

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Softball (29-14, 4-7 Big Ten) continues its five-game homestand with a three-game series against Maryland (18-19, 2-7 Big Ten). Admission to all regular season home games is free of charge with first pitch of the series scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
All three games will be streamed on BTN Plus. In addition, live stats will be available on IUHoosiers.com.
WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
Friday's contest with be the team's Breast Cancer Awareness game as the Hoosiers invite fans to wear pink. The first 200 fans at the game will receive a free pink Indiana t-shirt. Saturday will mark Lil Sis Day as the team' Lil Sis' are invited to pre-game activities and to be special guests of the Hoosiers.
SCOUTING MARYLAND
The Terrapins two conference victories came against Ohio State and Michigan State, as they dropped the series to both teams, as well as a three-game sweep from Minnesota. Outside of the Buckeyes and Spartans, the only other common opponents between IU and Maryland are Bethune-Cookman (Maryland won, 3-2) and Virginia (Maryland lost, 7-1). The Terps' offense has been strong this season as they are batting .305 as a team, which is third in the Big Ten. Maryland has five hitting above .300, led by Taylor Okada (.426, 40 hits, 20 runs) and Sammie Stefan (.350, 36 hits, 25 RBI, 5 HR). In the circle, the team's ERA is 5.26 with Sydney Golden (3.63 ERA, 11-6, 110.0 IP) and Sami Main (4.65 ERA, 3-7, 58.2 IP) carrying most of the innings.
Maryland and Indiana have met 13 times previously, with all but one of those meetings coming as conference games. Last year, the Hoosiers swept the three-game set in College Park as Bella Norton led Indiana with a .600 average, three hits and four RBI. Taylor Lambert also had an impressive showing, collecting four hits and six RBI with two home runs. In all, Indiana outscored Maryland 28-5 in the sweep. Tara Trainer earned two of the victories while Emily Goodin collected the other win.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana split a Wednesday doubleheader with Purdue, winning game one, 2-1, before falling in nine innings in the finale, 5-4. Junior Bella Norton led the offense for Indiana, collecting three total hits.
The Hoosiers dropped three games at No. 23 Michigan last weekend, including a 7-6 heartbreaker on Sunday as the Wolverines used a two-run double to walk it off. However, IU can take some positives in the loss as the six runs scored was the most the Wolverines have surrendered since March 9 and was tied for the second-most given up all season.
NEWS AND NOTES
• Indiana's nightcap loss to Purdue was just the second time all season Indiana has lost after taking the lead into the seventh inning. The Hoosiers are now 24-2 in that category.
• The Hoosiers came in at No. 39 in this week's NCAA RPI. The Terrapins sit at No. 88.
• At 29-14, the Hoosiers already have the most victories in a season since 2016 (29-25).
• Indiana has stolen 111 bases this season, more than double any other Big Ten program as Ohio State has the second-most with 52. It is the third-most stolen bases in Indiana program history (most is 120 set in 1987). A season ago, the Hoosiers swiped 112 stolen bases for the second-most in program history. The Hoosiers are third in the nation in total stolen bases.
• Sophomore Maddie Westmoreland collected a pair of base hits in game one Wednesday before seeing her reached base streak come to an end at 13 games in the nightcap. The highlight of Westmoreland's weekend in Ann Arbor was a two-home run outing on Saturday, marking her first multi-homer game of her career. Westmoreland has improved her season average to .304 as she has been batting .412 since the start of the Ohio State series on March 22. In that stretch, she has 14 total hits, including four multi-hit outings. In conference play alone, she is batting .419 with 13 hits and seven RBI.
• Senior Sarah Galovich has also been productive in conference action as she is batting .348 in 11 Big Ten games. Additionally, Galovich is currently riding an eight-game reached base streak for the Hoosiers.
• Sophomore Grayson Radcliffe impressed over the weekend against Michigan, batting a team-best .556 with five hits, four RBI and a run. Radcliffe got moved into the leadoff spot Sunday, delivering with three hits and tying her career-high with three RBI.
• Junior Gabbi Jenkins is currently leading the Hoosier bats with a .317 average and is one of three Hoosiers hitting above .300. In addition, Jenkins has stolen 17 bases this season, bringing her career total to 56, which is good for sixth-most in Indiana program history.
• Junior Emily Goodin is having a career season in the circle as her 1.96 ERA is the best of her three years at Indiana. With 95 strikeouts already, she's also on pace to set a new career best (in 2018, she had 101). Goodin has earned the start in five of the last 10 games for the Hoosiers.
• Fans at Andy Mohr Field will notice the addition of extra seating as bleachers have been installed on the concourse level down the first base line, allowing for 200 more seats.
TARA TRAINER IN THE RECORD BOOKS
• Senior Tara Trainer is the first Hoosier to reach at least 20 wins in a season since Morgan Melloh did so in 2011, in addition she is now tied with Amy Unterbrink (1983) for the ninth-most wins in a single season. For her career, Trainer's 62 wins is good for fourth all-time.
• Trainer collected 14 more strikeouts in the doubleheader against the Boilermakers, bringing her season total to 186, 11th-most in a single season at Indiana. Trainer now owns four of the top 12 spots in the record book for single season strikeouts. Her 758 career strikeouts continues to stand as the second-most in program history.
• Trainer has made 156 appearances in her IU career, which is third all-time at Indiana. In addition, her 121 games started is third all-time while her 687.1 IP is fourth.
