Indiana Track & Field Sees Competition in Three Meets This Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana Track & Field is set to split up this weekend has they have groups competing at the War Eagle Invite, Cardinal Classic, and Kentucky Open. A group of throwers will travel to the War Eagles Invite on Apr. 19 & 20, while the distance runners will compete at the two-day Cardinal Classic hosted by Stanford. Lastly, a troop of Hoosiers will remain close to home and compete at the one-day Kentucky Open.
War Eagle Invite
A group of throwers will travel down to Auburn, Ala. to compete in the War Eagle Invite on Friday Apr. 19 and Saturday Apr. 20. Nick Lane will be the first to compete as he is slated in the first flight of the hammer beginning Friday at 3 p.m. EST. He will be followed by Nycia Ford, Princess Brinkley, and Alexis Hill on the women's side of the hammer. The squad will return on Saturday as David Schall will start off the day in the men's discus beginning at 1 p.m. EST. The women's discus will feature Maddy Pollard, Khayla Dawson, and Hill. Dawson and Pollard will also be competing in the women's shot put and Schall and Lane will return on the men's side.

Cardinal Classic
The distance squad will travel to Sanford, Calif. to compete in the Cardinal Classic. Indiana will have competitors in the men's and women's 800m and 1500m as well as the men's 5000m. In the men's 800m invite, Aaron Bennett, Jalen Royal, and Adam Wallace will represent the cream & crimson. Eight Hoosier men will be featured in the 1500m, Bennett, Kenneth Hagen, Kyle Mau, Ben Veatch, Teddy Browning, Daniel Michalski, Joe Murphy, and Cooper Williams.

Kentucky Open
13 Hoosiers will travel to Lexington, Ky. on Saturday to compete in the Kentucky Open.
Schedule of track events (women followed by men)—4x100 relay, 110m hurdles, 100m, 400m, 800m, 400m hurdles, steeple, 200m, 1500m, 4X400 relay.
Last Time Out: Tennessee Relays
Tennessee Relays proved to be a place where the Hoosiers shined as they won five events throughout the weekend in Knoxville. Cooper Williams won the 800m with a time of 1:48.23. Joe Murphy and Haley Harris helped sweep the steeplechase. Murphy led the entire race and crossed the finish line in a time of 9:06.08. Harris also led her entire race as she clocked a time of 10:32.21. Adam Coulon was the final individual to win their event as he took first in the pole vault with a height of 5.35m (17' 6.5"). The men's 4x800 relay rounded out titles for the Hoosiers. Aaron Bennett, Kyle Mau, Cooper Williams, and Ben Veatch grabbed a time of 7:23.81.

The Indiana men's team remained ranked in the weekly USTFCCCA National Outdoor Ratings Index and checked in at No. 17 this week. USTFCCCA's weekly regional ranking were released on Monday also. The women's squad is ranked No. 2 behind Big Ten foe Ohio State while the men are ranked No. 4. In front of the men are all Big Ten schools in Purdue (1), Ohio State (2), and Michigan (3). Also, this week, the first conference rankings came out. In the Big Ten, the women come in at No. 4 while the men's team sits at No. 6 among the 13 schools in the league.
Sitting at the Top
Three Hoosiers ranks No. 1 in their respective events in the NCAA East Region. Eric Bethea leads the East in the triple jump after securing a distance of 16.19m (53' 1.5") at Florida Relays on Mar. 30. In his first week of the outdoor season Daniel Michalski jumped to the top of the leaderboard in the steeple with a national and East leading time of 8:35.82. Rounding out the trio of Indiana student-athletes is Kyle Mau who holds down the top spot in the 5000m with a time of 13:44.43.
Among the Nation's Best
The top-48 in each event will compete throughout Memorial Day Weekend at the NCAA East Regional Prelims. 28 Hoosiers sit in the NCAA East Region through three weeks of regular season competition. Indiana holds spots in the 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, steeple, pole vault, triple jump, long jump, high jump, shot put, hammer, discus, and the heptathlon.
