PHILADELPHIA, Pa.— A relay wheel is coming home to Indiana as it was one for the ages on Saturday at Penn Relays for Indiana Track & Field. The women's 4x800 meter relay team claimed the Hoosiers first women's relay wheel in program history. It was also the first wheel won under Head Coach Ron Helmer since him coming to Indiana.
In the Championship of America race, Joely Pinkston, Haley Harris, Mallory Mulzer, and Kelsey Harris stringed together the second fastest time in school history with a time of 8:33.47. This was the first wheel won under Head Coach Ron Helmer since him coming to Indiana.
Individually, Adam Coulon continued his streak of topping the podium as cleared a height of 5.30m to win the championship of the men's pole vault.
On the men's side of the track, the men's 4x800 relay team of Adam Wallace, Jalen Royal, Kenneth Hagen, and Cooper Williams took to the track and picked up second place with a time of 7:25.43.
In the finale for Indiana, only four seconds separated first and second as Joe Murphy, Kyle Mau, Teddy Browning, and Ben Veatch left it all out on the track but came up just .04 seconds short to take runners up in a time of 16:39.86 that was a race for the ages.
Individually on the track, Rikkoi Brathwaite competed in the finals of the 100m dash and picked up fifth place with a time of 10.43.
Eric Bethea concluded the Hoosiers stint in the field as he saw silver medal honors and jumped to a distance of 15.84m (51' 11.75").
Up next, Indiana will host their single meet of outdoor season. The Billy Hayes Invite is set for Friday, May 3. First event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
