Hoosiers Drop Match to No. 36 Minnesota, 5-2
Minneapolis, Minn. – The Indiana men's tennis team (10-9, 4-3 B1G) fell to the No. 36 Minnesota Golden Gophers (14-5, 3-4 B1G), 5-2, on Sunday afternoon inside the Baseline Tennis Center. This was the sixth match against a ranked opponent for IU.
In the defeat, Andrew Redding and Vikash Singh picked up singles wins.
The Hoosiers surrendered the doubles point after Minnesota took the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.
The Gophers increased that lead to 2-0 when it also claimed the first singles match of the day, a straight-set win at No. 2.
Minnesota's lead was cut in half by IU when Andrew Redding won his match at the No. 5 spot. Redding outlasted his opponent in the first set in a tiebreaker and then surged to a 6-0 win in the second set. The native of Concord, N.C. is now 9-5 on the season.
The remaining four matches were extended to the third set in which the Gophers won three of four. The lone win for the Hoosiers came in the final match of the day when Vikash Singh won 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 at the No. 6. Singh went 2-0 this weekend and has eight wins over his freshman campaign.
Up next, the Hoosiers will close out their home schedule when they host Nebraska on April 13 at 12 PM and Iowa/Saint Louis on April 14 at 12/5 PM.
